You’re a fool if you pick Mercer over Nemec. Nemec was picked 2nd OA for a reason, he’s a franchise D in the making. There’s no way he’s on the block or even considered for trade. 2 years of ELC after this one.

The only way I could even begin to see Nemec being available is if Markstrom and Hanifin are headed to NJ.

NJ's d squad is pretty logjammed. Hamilton + Marino + Siegenthaler Signed long term with NTC/NMCs , Hughes as the young guy logging minutes, Bahl who is the giant D-focused mold, and Casey waiting in the wings. And disimone who they stole from us!

I think there's probably more wiggle room on Nemec than we are assigning here. But probably not for Markstrom.

I honestly think I would potentially take Nemec alone for Markstrom and Hanifin.

You generally don't get that type of pedigree of player in a trade.

A 20 year old, top 2 pick, that shoots right, and is likely a top pairing fixture for the next 15 years.

We need to pump the brakes on a Mercer or Nemec return in my opinion. Judy like Tanev and Zadorov before them we are getting way too greedy on what we expect for our UFA’s or veterans. A Holtz centered package around Markstrom is a solid return. If the Flames are sending Hanifin and Markstrom to the Devils maybe they send Mercer but no way they are trading Nemec who was the 2nd overall pick less than 2 years ago

Right? That would jump our retool ahead by a ton. Still need to sort out center and goaltending gradually, but D would be set for years and years. The only faint chance I see of him even being available is a combo of if he's totally disgruntled with NJ managing him fairly poorly and Fitz being an idiot. He's easily one of the most valuable prospects in the league.

You are probably right but Hanifin/Markstom are on another planet compared to Tanev and especially Zadorov
