Are you serious? You're on an island, far from distribution centers, which means long travel distances to get groceries and....

You know what...screw it. Lets boil this down to the lowest common denominator.

Alberta: 5% GST
NS: 5% GST - 10% PST = 15% HST

"Ohhh booo.....things are more expensive."

Distance. Travel. Convenience. Taxes.

By Jove Sherlock! I think we've solved the case!

Are you purposely being this obtuse, or what? Did I say that I am mad that things are more expensive grocery wise here than calgary, or that groceries are expensive? Get a grip. By the way Calgary was recently ranked as most expensive city in Canada. So I'd chill on comparisons

I wonder at the posters in Calgary who think that groceries are cheap here. What whiteout said isn't too far off alberta pricing. I'm guessing that either, said posters are richer than the average bear and don't care to notice, or someone else in the household does the shopping.

Older and wealthier than average. Just look at the 'do younger people have it harder now' thread, plenty of people here seem out of touch

Yeah Locke, it’s already been established that you can in fact drive to this “island”

My finger is so sore from going through hundreds of posts from somebody I was beefing with on Reddit and downvoting everything they've said for months. Got caught in a trance and then realized my finger was gibbled.

holding a phone is very bad for your hands. They just keep getting bigger and heavier. Whenever I have to text I notice a lot of discomfort.

Back to soda, I actually can't believe how much it costs, and that I see people routinely hauling cases out of the store. $6-7 or more for a dozen cans is insane to me.

It wasn't that long ago grocery stores sold two cases for $6, or maybe three cases for $10. I'm sure there are a host of other inflationary pressures along the way such as labour and packaging that bump up the cost. The price of aluminum hasn't shot up that much in five years; its bottled locally to keep shipping down.

I'd wager cost alone is one of the largest driving down soda consumption.

*I have no data to back up anything I said

The Sunshine Spring Pass shot up by almost $150.

I ended up buying two Midweek passes and will try a couple of days at Louise and Nakiska to mix thing up a little.

If your hands are getting bigger and heavier, I would blame the chocolate bars.
