Watched two great movies this weekend:
Poor Things -- a solid 8.8/10 for me. The whole movie was just a good watch, full of weirdness and stuff that made me 'think'.
Dune part 2 -- 9.8/10, what a ride. My favorite movie in the last few years, easily.

I walked out of Poor Things. It made me think this was a waste of my time and money. It wasn't just me, there were others that walked out of the theatre.

That's more of an indictment on your taste. Beautifully filmed and directed, fun quirky story and Emma Stone was incredible. I saw it 3 times in the theater.
Just reading that comment on Walken in Dune 2, realized that was the only moment I was out of the story. I just kept on thinking, there's Christopher Walken, strange to see him in such a huge sci-fi movie, there's that distinct speech pattern and delivery, there's Christopher Walken. He's great, just an odd choice.

This is why I docked .2 off my score. It definitely took me out of the movie briefly. Also agreed on Poor Things.

There no arguing that Emma Stone should get best actress for her role in the movie. I couldn't stomach the graphic nature of some of the sex scenes and it appeared there were others in the theatre that agreed, after taking with one of the theatre staff. That said I can understand why it got some Oscar nomination's. Just not my taste, like you said.

Im not surprised people walked out of Poor Things. Some people just don't want that graphic nudity, or maybe just weren't really prepared for it. It definitely took me off guard.

Took me off guard would be the word I'd used. There is sooo much nudity in movies and on tv that a person should desensitized to all that. What I saw I wasn't prepared for.

I haven't seen Band of Brothers, so I'll see if I can find it after I'm finished this. My only "complaint" of this series is that Rami Malek is in it & I can't stand him. That aside, it's been excellent.

It's a classic case of signing A-list actors for their star power and needed to rewrite the story to make it about their characters.

Open surgery in the first two minutes and when nudity came it was shocking?

I was on board with Poor Things immediately, but I love Yorgos Lanthimos and his nutso movies so I was fully prepared for a wild ride.
That being said, in one of the opening scenes when she plays with the cadaver's junk and then gleefully stabs him in the face over and over again with a scalpel... I was so caught off guard I burst out laughing.
That movie isn't getting a 4K release by the sounds of it, which is a shame because it was beautiful.

The subject matter itself played into the, I guess, uncomfortability. Which is basically the whole point.
It's not the nudity as much as the pretty graphic nature of it and just not being aware it was THAT kind of movie. You see brain surgery on basically any medial drama. It's just different conditioning.
If you go back you'll see I personally loved the movie and described it as "if Wes Anderson and Tim Burton made a porno". Not everything is everyone's cup of tea that's okay.

I like how the walk outs weren't tipped off by that either lol.
Yorgos or Aster films, A24 films, Neon films. Never go with immediate family or somebody you're uncomfortable watching the worst or most intimate parts of humanity displayed in graphic detail on screen with. Or far out stuff like grown men birthing other men from their taints. Literally nothing is off limits with these kind of movies. That's why they're a joy for those of us with open minds that enjoy the experience that comes with them.
If it looks weird and artsy - don't take your kids, don't take your parents (unless your relationship is special like that), don't take your grandparents.
Feels like that should be common sense now with how many of those films have hit screens in recent years, but apparently casual viewers think they're going to see an old fashioned Disney flick starring Emma Stone.

Fair, although there was a lot more to the movie than just the brothel parts. And I'd argue it was really beautiful, funny and thought-provoking.

According to JustWatch it isn't on any streaming service. You can rent it but it's not anywhere for free.

I agree. I can just see why other people might not be interested, even if it is those things.
I don't watch horror movies. I'm sure some of them are brilliant commentary on many things.

There are recent "horror" films that frankly have warranted oscar consideration for more than their technical aspects but did not, probably mostly due to the genre.
Acting as well. Namely, Mia Goth in Pearl. That was an unforgivable snub.
