It would be really satisfying if Conroy ends up snagging Mercer. Because he's a great young player who fits like a glove here, but also because of everyone who panicked when Conroy didn't make a deal for a lesser return two weeks ago.

Mercer
2025 2nd (become's 1st if Devils make the ECF in 2024 or 2025)
Casey
for
Markstrom (33% retention)
Rooney
That will be my guess.

All this talk about how Murray is a penny pincher has been slowly dispelled since the Huberdeau signing IMO, Murray doesn’t seem to have any issues with handing out money in a variety of ways and it seems Craig Conroy has the gumption to use the different tools at hand to weaponize many aspects of the cap. Looking forward to his work over the next few days!

Murray doesn't simply give money away but he isn't afraid to spend it. Reality is, Conroy's price hasn't been met... with or without retention.
When things started to get serious with NJD Talks about Markstrom,he went to his camp to ensure he wasnt wasting anyone's time. Once NJD knew he would waive they went all wild and changed the structure of the agreement, trying to put pressure on Conroy. "Well you boy said he wanted to come here, so how about you take this instead." Jersey attempted to use to media to pressure the fresh GM to try and get him to make a mistake. I have reported this many times before. It didn't work, Fitz looks like a clown.

We get Mercer and a first then get another first and a prospect for Hanifin im a happy camper. Essentially my entire list of problems has been addressed center depth and defensive depth as well as picking up more draft picks. Pull it off and all i can say is bravo good sir conroy!

I have no worries with the team at the helm, so happy to see the direction being taken. I wasn’t insinuating that Huby was ‘dumb’ money either, so apologies if that’s how it came across, I just feel that the ownership group has shown time and again they have no qualms spending to the cap, it’s just right now it feels like with have a true visionary in Conroy who gets all levels of the puzzle. It’s beyond refreshing; Ty for the window you have been providing the fan base as well, it’s fascinating and incredibly fun to discuss!

Locker room? Much better than last year
Prospects? Deeper
Draft picks? Lots more of them
Results on the ice? Comparable
UFA's? Out the door
We have 1 UFA left to trade. We need to sign Kylington. We need to solve the goaltending situation...though this isn't really a problem. It just needs a direction.
This summer we get to draft lots of players, maybe sign a few free agents and see what happens from there.
The team is actually not bad.

I think it was Friedman that mentioned he heard from one NHL GM that the Flames are an example of a team that you do not want to meet in the playoffs with the way Markstrom is playing this year (before they moved Tanev).

Would rather not ha
If it’s Casey + 2024 first round pick (top ten protected) + 2024 2nd round pick then I would be happy. Not as good as getting Mercer of course but imagine being told in September that the Flames would get a package like that for Markstrom without retention.

Devil's are not packing it in on this season despite having the same odds as the flames of making the playoffs according to MoneyPuck model that is used by a lot of teams league wide 18-20%.

Markstrom was upset the was told he was being traded and then it didn't happen. I bet the Devils are upset over the exact same thing, given their comments.

This tracks with how all these leaks have come out, definitely feels like Fitz trying to negotiate through the media. Now he looks like a clown for not getting a deal done earlier when they had a chance at making the playoffs.

The dream deadline is Markstrom for Mercer+ and Hanifin for Lundell+
Very unlikely, but... hey it's fun to imagine.

So do you know if Markstrom was angry at Conroy and company, or the Jersey side of things? Or maybe both?
