Because he’s their second best goalie.
Markstrom, meanwhile, the best player on the entire team right now.

Swayman is pushing Ullmark, no one is pushing Markstrom.

The heart was ripped out when Tanev was traded. He was talked about as being a captain in the room.

Conroy has a good hand and he's playing it well to get what he wants. If he doesn't get what he wants, he's willing to play the hand again in the off-season.

Yep. No rush, Conroy shouldn't be feeling pressure to make the move here it's all on Fitz.

And yet the Flames came together in the last 10 mins of a game they had no business being in to will a win. The only reason they were able to even push for a comeback though was Marky holding the fort down, he’s undoubtedly been the driving force behind the flames current position in the standings.

I have a feeling Tanev will be a Flame again next season. Just a hunch though.

He already knows the flames were set on giving him a 3 x 4.5 which is likely more than he could get in the open market. I still think Tanev values winning a great deal and he wants a shot at the cup so if the Stars disappoint this playoffs then I could see him look at a 1 year deal with a contender for another shot.

Probably depends on his experience in Texas and if greener pastures actually feel greener to him.
By all accounts, he's very fond of calgary (the place) and was treated very well with his departure.
I think in the end, this was about getting a real shot at the prize now, since the Flames weren't going to be making a bid this spring.
Wouldn't write it off.

Personally I think a higher chance of coming back to Calgary if Dallas wins it this year IMO.

I think you mean, "divided"? But based on Saturday's character comeback win, I'm leaning towards agreeing with you.
I do believe that based on Markstrom's answers to Francis' questions, he likely wants to move out now whereas I felt like before all this drama, he wanted to stay and be a part of Conroy's plan going forward. Whatever he's upset about, to come out and call senior management out directly is a line you can't really come back from. Really unfortunate if this is the case as Markstrom's been one of the city and organization's strongest supporters. Pretty sad, actually and I don't blame Markstrom at all for speaking his mind.

Or you come back to Calgary on a 1 year deal and wait to see who the contenders are come deadline time!

The chances of them making it are what, like 10 percent? The highest value he has is at the deadline and he is already 34 years old. Holding on to him for that reason is an awful move IMO especially with no salary retention now.
|
Well said. Considering the other bodies that have left the room this season, why start worrying about chemistry right now? Damage is done. I would suggest that there might be better chemistry with another young guy brought up who is going to need to bond with his teammates going forward.

Stupid comment. Team affiliation has nothing to do with this issue.

You're right. It's about winning next year, and the year after, and the year after that. This is all about the future and Markstrom is clearly not part of that future. Better to move on from a player when their value is at a height not seen in recent years and take advantage of a team willing to overpay than sit on that asset and watch opportunity go by. Get a good haul for a guy who is clearly not in the plan.

The locker room's fragility sounds like it's on the level of Markstrom's in the Edmonton series. With him, they're seven points out of the playoffs.
If Boston can reportedly trade an actual Vezina winner (not finalist) and handle it, what are we shaking in our boots about to keep the locker room happy? Happy to miss the playoffs without Sutter instead of with him?
And if we don't expect them to make the playoffs - a very defendable position to take - why do we have Markstrom anyway? To pick 13th instead of 7th but have a happy locker room?

All Markstrum is doing is preventing the Flames from having a better draft pick in this years draft
Tij might go around 10th . Sure would be nice to have him to add to the prospect cupboard vs someone at 15th
Unless people truely believe the Flames can make the playoffs this year
The “Room” does not matter at all for the future success of this team . In 4 years when they (best case IMO) are ready to compete there may be 4-5 players left from this roster max
Trade Markstrum for best deal , tank to 10th , draft Tij and be patient and weaponize cap space in offseason and this will have been a near perfect year
