I'm sorry but Markstrom is still under contract for another 2 years. Relationships can be mended. Conroy would not take unfair deal just to deal Markstrom, it wouldn't make any sense.

Yeah, I’m not sure how it would be any form of tampering to suggest the team that wanted to trade for a player in the first place still wants to trade for that player. Seems pretty obvious the Devils want him since… you know… they made an offer for him. Not sure “we still want you but haven’t offered enough!” moves the needle in the PR department.

Conroy is under zero obligation to trade Markstrom, and if Markstrom asks for a trade, he’ll get traded to the team with the best offer (that may or may not be the Devils).

The Devils remain interested, as of Monday, and the Flames remain noncommittal about moving their star goalie, who is signed through the 2025-26 season at a $6 million AAV. Because the Flames keep winning!

New Jersey is motivated to fix its goaltending once and for all, and as I reported last Friday, the Devils have told the Flames they’re ready to take on the contract without any salary retention. But Flames GM Craig Conroy worries about ripping the heart out of his dressing room if he moves his goalie.

Most likely this is an offseason decision, but because the Devils are eager now, don’t discount the possibility of a trade before Friday’s deadline. Markstrom has a full no-move clause, but it’s believed he would waive it for New Jersey.

Yes, the Devils desperately need a goalie, and as discussed above they’re focused on a different Swede as their top target. However, I was also told Monday that the Devils have looked at Ullmark as a possible option if they can’t swing a deal with Calgary. So stay tuned there. IMO, that is a huge mistake on Conroy's part if it's true. To worry about ripping the room part? Tanev, Lindholm, Zadorov and Hanifin have been traded or will be moved. The team knows that they aren't buyers and are sellers already. If Calgary was in a playoff spot I would get it but they are 7 points out with 22 games left. The chances of them making it are what, like 10 percent? The highest value he has is at the deadline and he is already 34 years old. That has nothing to do with it and your comment about winning now is my point exactly. From what I've seen most posters on here want him traded because that is the highest value he has and he is 34 years old. Markstrom gives them the best chance to win right now but it's not about that. It's about maximizing the value for him. They can get the most for him at the deadline.

And the chemistry in the room? The players in the room already know they are sellers. Tanev was dealt, Lindholm was dealt and Hanifin is about to be dealt. Those players I understand are UFA's but every player in that room knows they aren't buyers. And like I said it's not like they are safely in a playoff spot. The best move for them is to trade Markstrom and I'm sure the majority of the board would agree. But again, great comment with the it came from an Oilers fan!

If they will take him without retention and the package is good and Markstrom will waive then get it done. Roll the dice with Vladar/Wolf the rest of the season. That 6 million in cap savings is an asset as well. They are still a major longshot to make the playoffs.

Yeah honestly maybe all the players who want out and were refusing to re-sign should think about "gutting the team" Conroy needs to do what is best for the Flames franchise long term. Hurt feelings can't be a consideration.

So, someone told something to someone, who then told something to Friedman. Not exactly "facts" in my mind.

One thing you can now see with Friedman is he carefully uses two words depending on how much information he knows. When he says....

"I think", EF means he is connecting dots, educated guessing vs been told something directly.

"I believe", EF means he has been told something.

He will correct himself to change these words when speaking live.

Anyone else notice this? Or just me.
