Ok, so the guy who initially reported that was David Pagnotta so either you have faith in a guy who has the same reliability as Eklund or you have a contact that is directly in Flames office because nobody has been able to pinpoint what that offer was that is of a great reputation like Friedman or LeBraun. Your capitalization of WAS says you 100% know for a fact he was in the offer, and maybe you do but if you have that kind of connection perhaps you would share with us more often. For the record I do believe Holtz was in the initial offer as you say however as I reported before the Flames hard line is Dawson Mercer in any deal for Markstrom, as it was the same for Jussi Saros. That is what I have heard, I am NOT 100% sure it is accurate though as I would have to hear that from Conroy or Trotz to be sure of it.

With New Jersey losing left and right, at this point, I'd almost be more interested in their 1st round pick than anything else.

I think the 1st round pick that was in play was their 2025 for obvious reasons.

For those saying the Devils won't make the playoffs this season, thats totally fair and they may not need Markstrom this season.

However, it could make sense for them to acquire Markstrom now so he gets used to the system and environment - this way he can hit the ground running next season and there is no 15-20 game adjustment period.

30 thoughts podcast Calgary notes -
* possiblity that the Markstrom offer wasn't pulled due to retention but because Calgary took him off the market because they were winning and could make the playoffs (don't shoot the messenger)
* focusing on Tampa in Hanifin trade but not easy to make because Tampa doesn't have a ton of assets
* They tried to re-sign Tanev before the trade went through.

Friedman said this flat out on Saturday night, said that it's what he believes happened.

if the Flames did in fact keep Marky, after going to him about a trade, because they thought they could make a playoffs then I think it's fair to say that the short sightedness of the organization has not been extinguished.

They've gone on a heater and still remain 7 points out.

For my own sanity I'm going to believe that if he was pulled from the market it's because the offers weren't good enough

Because if it was for any other reason... FFS

If that’s why they backed out, the standings were different when they backed out, but yeah…not good.

I can also understand frustration or even fury from the NJD if that’s the case.

I find that hard to believe personally; Conroy has been sticking to the plan he has set - which I might add didn’t mention any players on the team with term - and I know he thinks highly of Wolf and needs to create space on the roster sooner than later. To add to that the fact that Conroy highly values young players and the draft and I can’t see him being this short-sighted.

The Tanev one is just bizarre to me.

This all has a familiar ownership stench to it. Hopefully Connie is able to thwart it and hold to his vision of getting younger and acquiring more draft capital.
