He has stated the Hanifin market has been lukewarm and the return will be somewhere between what Lindholm got vs what Tanev got. That likely is a pick, roster player, prospect. I don’t know if they can land a 22 year old center who has better than 0.5ppg in almost 200 games
Huh we got a great deal for Lindholm.

Tanev return was good as well.

How has he been bang on?

I think those would be amazing returns the flames add highly promising young cost controlled assets that impact the team immediately for 2 older vets, one of which is walking in the summer and the other was untraceable a year ago

He said Lindholm was going to net the flames a huge package that would be bigger than any other pending UFA from Calgary and he said Tanev was not getting a first round pick back

I would do those deals all day long.

We had a 1st on the table for Tanev.

We elected for a 2nd and a 2nd round drafted prospect.

The 1st was also taking a cap dump back that had term and almost was certainly the Oilers 1st + Ceci who is a fringe Dman making north of $3M

Big picture, it does seem to put the Flames in a much better position. When looking at each potential trade in isolation, they look less appealing.

We had a first with a $3.25 million cap dump.

Negative value for the team. Age 35 season.

Ceci’s deal isn’t horrible. He is a 2MM dman making 3.25MM for 1 more year. We could’ve easily fit him and dealt him at next yrs deadline for a 4th at least. Unless Conroy was really that high on Grushnikov or simply didn’t want to deal with the Oilers without an overpay, then this was a miss.

I cannot think of a single instance where Weekes has been correct.

Not sure I agree. If Ceci is easily tradable for a 4th at least, why don't the Oilers just do that and then trade their 1st for a better Dman?

The way the Dallas / Edmonton offers played out, it certainly appears that Ceci has negative value.

Would you trade a young Backlund for Hanifin? IMO that's Lundell's upside

My answer is no, this team needs a more skilled center

OK but you aren't going to get a better centre than Lundell for Hanifin.
Acquiring the next Backlund would be a nice bit of business.

I would love to get a young Backlund for 21 games of Hanifin. Someone has to take over for the real Backlund eventually.

Lundell was on pace as a rookie to hit 55 points. He was also +33 that year.

Backlunds best offensive season in 15 years was 56 points.

I think you're selling Lundell's ceiling short.
