He’s on pace for 100 points. I don’t think he’s value cratered like Lindholm quitting on the Flames and sucking in Vancouver.

I would 100% take Matthew Tkachuk on this team at this exact contract.

Not Ellias Petersen. He was resigned.

How are they doing for cap space to sign all of the others needing contracts this summer ? Could we offer sheet Hronek?

Yes, but look at Johnny Gaudreau, or he could get an injury.
If he was deciding to look at a shorter term like Matthews maybe, Lindholm might help him decide to follow the McDavid conservative model of get the money guaranteed!
He could have pushed for a 4 year deal, and still possibly gotten an 8 year deal after that…but Lindholm shows that may not go the way you hope….

I don't think Calgary can use their 1st to offer sheet because the Flames' 1st is subject to conditions on the Monahan trade.
And even if they could, as a potentially high pick, this would be insane to do, and would be against the supposed direction of the team.

I don't think Petey is all he's cracked up to be from the outside. Which is why VAN fans still appear to be frustrated with him every other week.
Can be a big producer but not a 1C you win with.
12+ would've been an overpayment. This is closer to a fair deal. Not sure I'd call it good or great.
Time will tell.

Good deal for Vancouver, thought it would have to be $12+ to get the full 8 year contract

I think a bunch of players are about to get into this range and this will look good pretty quickly. Especially the 8 years part.
Obviously depends on him staying healthy.

Excellent deal for Vancouver. Must be a nice feeling for the fan base as that was a dark cloud looming over a fun season.

So if Canuck fans want to correct me on timeline or details but I believe the sequence of events went something like this
1. Pettersson says he doesn't want to talk contract during season.
2. Canucks ignore that request and repeatedly pester his agents to start contract talks, get no response.
3. Canucks leak to media that they're frustrated with him for not engaging. This stirs up local media. Meanwhile they have real trade talks with Carolina involving Necas and Kotkaneimi
4. Canucks approach Pettersson and say we potentially have a trade for you if you don't want to be here.
5. Pettersson finally caves and starts contract talks
6. Contract announced today.
If it's as it appears seems like very good if not ruthless work by Canuck management. Wouldn't mind if Flames had done similar with Tkachuk/Gaudreau back in the day.

Really fair deal. It'll be very good if Pettersson can stay as a 90+ point player and not have another one of those seasons like the one a couple seasons ago.

Great signing for an electrifying player. Probably going to be the best ever Canuck?
Aside from Cam Neely of course.

The only correction is to 3, as Dhaliwal had been adamant that the Canucks did not leak the trade discussions and are pretty pissed that it got out.
Edit - actually you were suggesting they leaked the Canucks being frustrated about the lack of engagement from Pettersson's camp, which might be true.

So, Pettersson will make 100k more than Nylander, except Pettersson is a center and younger.
