Just like about 98% of all media.
There job is to create narratives and generate “news”. No one reports things as they are anymore.

I don't entirely disagree with him, but definitely chuckled at Weekes' comments remembering that he got traded from Vancouver for quitting on his team and faking an injury to force a rookie into the game (according to Burke at least)

Yeah, Flames taking heat on this one.
Perhaps deservedly so - for all the talk about how the Flames weren’t going to approach him unless things were good to go, for them to then approach him, have him (apparently) approve it, and then have the deal scuttled isn’t a great look.
If those are the circumstances, Conroy should make sure he gets this trade completed before the deadline. Zero point in keeping players who have soured on the situation here.
It also wouldn’t surprise me if the news about NJD being willing take on his full cap-hit came from Pat Morris, who is trying to turn up the public heat on Conroy to get him to complete the trade.

Can’t really watch right now, but isn’t Rupper a hardcore Jersey guy?

Generally speaking, sure they hit on some good points. But it's blatantly obvious they don't have any specific details on how things transpired but are more or less spitballing. They're also downplaying what Conroy is going through with trying to negotiate these trades and don't appear to consider how it might be impossible to manage that situation flawlessly where people involved don't get frustrated.
It's also entirely possible that Markstrom's comment is getting blown out of proportion to begin with and/or misinterpreted.

Why would we want to do that now? Free agency is a losing game and there's no one to extend but Pelletier and Kylington.

Weekes was, and correct me if I’m wrong, one of the first if not thee first pundit to start speculation on Markstrom when he tweeted a pic of him along with the Ryan eyes back in January. Pretty funny to see the media, who was complicit in all of the Markstrom reporting, is chastising the Flames here.
Markstrom was a human and reacted emotionally to a classic EF stir the pot question. I’m sure the vets all realize this is a business, the flames are clearly rebuilding or at the very least retooling, Marky should be happy Conroy is trying to work with him to find a spot he can win because he isn’t getting any younger and his talents will ultimately be wasted here.

Of course you never know with this kind of thing without all the details, but my bias gut feel is that this is just Marky being a little sensitive, and having too high expectations.
He has a NTC / NMC. Not a don’t ask me clause. What he negotiated was the final say on if / where he goes, that’s all. Sorry if having to make that decision makes you stressed, it’s part of why you make millions, and it’s a lot more than most players get.
Now I get it, just cause the Flames can ask at nausium doesn’t mean they should or is what they should do to create the culture they want and respect the players. But based on everything we know, this doesn’t feel like that.
Sorry you’ve had to deal with some uncertainty Marky the past few weeks, but that comes with the territory when the team hasn’t lived up to expectations. Be thankful you have the hammer and stop complaining IMO.

Their critiques would've been much better used on Edmonton when they signed Kane and then Perry.
At least then there would actually be something concrete that's worth being critical of.
Seems like poor form to #### on a team that was already in the throes of a retool being forced upon them. Conroy is a class act and they would do no better in his place.
It's entirely possible that Markstrom is not very good at emotionally handling standard business procedures (and uncertainty that stems from them) that comes with playing in the NHL, and was just caught in a moment of weakness with one of Eric Francis' prying questions.

It's a Calgary player, so the responsibility lies with the Flames to be respectful to Markstrom.
I just can't help but think New Jersey played a pretty big role in where we're at with this.

Someone from Jersey's side leaks the rumours before the trade is completed... Flames brass get #### on for the aftermath of it when trade doesn't go through..
Classic.

I really think the Flames mistake was not shutting this down after the initial explanation after original discussion got leaked. There has been zero change in the NJ situatuonsince that first NJ proposal got shut down, but Markstrom still has to answer questions daily. Other teams tell the local media to back off and the Flames haven't done that to Markstrom 's liking.

Completely agree. Take the high ground Flames org but learn from it.
You are being thrown under the bus by NHLNetwork but not sure we will ever find out which side purposely leaked stuff for leverage or couldn't stay silent.
If it was the Flames side. Take it as lesson learned as a new GM and move on.
Markstrom will get over it. He just lost his buddy teammates Tanev and his other buddy Lindholm so emotions running high today.

Just to play devils advocate here. Do we know it was the Jersey side that leaked things? Or are we just assuming? Conroy could be angry it was leaked from the flames side…
Edit: devils advocate dumb phrase here. I do not advocate for the devils
