Agreed 100%. Now that there isn't really anything left to negotiate in terms of revenue sharing I would expect the owners to go after contract items that tie their hands (NMC/NTCs and guaranteed contracts, etc.) On the flipside, I would expect the PA to go after earlier UFA and trying to get a cut of expansion fees and other one time items.
The next CBA is going to be very interesting.

Yeah same.
In a vacuum it's not the biggest deal.
But given the last few years it's getting pretty exhausting..

This kind of stuff is so lame.
“Oh be a professional and shut your mouth! You’re just a hockey player and not a person and if the media asks a question give a canned answer like a good boy!” blah blah blah.
People are being ridiculous. Boohoo to all the fans that have an issue with the player speaking his mind. He has a NMC, if he doesn’t want to waive it he can just say “no” and then where are we? If the man says “don’t even ask me until it’s done” for whatever reason, that’s his right, and it’s his right to be annoyed by all this stuff.
It’s really no wonder hockey players are the most boring people imaginable. Upright fans constantly saying “shut up and play” every time they accidentally be a person must be tough.

Markstrom can be annoyed. This is his life and family. This is why some (not me) believe that players with NTCs should not even be approached to waive.
But that doesn't mean Conroy mis-handled it. As some have speculated perhaps the bones of the deal was done, Conroy when to Markstrom and then NJ asked for retention.
Deal's aren't done until they are done.
But to get the deal done they needed Markstrom to approve.
When you seek that is tricky business.
We saw how this was clunky with the Iginla deal too. They thought they had his approval for both the Pens and Bruins - until they didn't.
Doesn't mean anyone did anything wrong. Sometimes stuff just happens.

I can’t speak for blame but Markstrom did do something wrong. He aired dirty laundry in public and that’s a bad look for him and the team. I don’t see anything wrong with discussing it.

Think the difference is Markstrom does seem to be blaming managment, it's not that we as fans are blaming Conroy, it's that Markstrom seems to be doing that.
He didn't just say "I am frustrated by all the rumours and questions, and want to focus on the game".
He explicitly says "I think it could have been handled better by those up top"
I'm not even saying I think Conroy is wrong (he has to do what he thinks best for the team), I'm saying that Markstrom seems to feel like he has a reason to be frustrated with Conroy and I understand why he's frustrated.

I keep coming back to these players are the ones who put "those up top" in a bad position in the first place
Trust me they would rather be a firmly in a pacific playoff spot

Those “up top” doesn’t mean he’s frustrated with Conroy, that could include New Jersey and their side as well.
As usual, we’re dedicating a whole lot of words to a guess on what we think he meant and how we think he feels. It doesn’t mean anything.

We just need this trade to be done so we can all just move on.
1st Holtz for Markstrom no retention.
1st Holtz Casey Vanacek for Markstrom at 20% retained.

If it were that easy it would probably be done I think...I can see it now, the Flames will get a "poor return" and be roasted again by experts that leaked fake returns earlier

Sure and again not surprising. It was reported several times that the Flames had to handle him delicately because he hates this stuff.
And I think they tried to do that.
I don't know enough of what happened to speculate where it went wrong.

Without retention it seems like they should be able to close the gap quickly now.

Markstrom sounds super whiny. He's out here throwing shade at Conroy, keep the negativity to yourself. It's obvious now, he's gotta hit the road.

Plus, every one knows Conroy is a beauty.
Tanev went out of his way to thank Connie and he was dealing with the possibility of a long list of destinations, not just one where he still had ultimate control over if he goes or not. Goes to show professionalism is always an option to you.

Super whiny?
It was one very concise comment, stand-alone, with no other statement to support, that wasn’t even too specific

What's "lame" is Markstrom publicly undermining and questioning management. He damn well knew his words would cause a stir, yet said them anyway. Again, do it behind closed doors if you are so butthurt about a GM doing his job.

These trades are immensely difficult to make. Why would both parties work on and hammer out a deal for potentially months on end only to have Markstrom nix it at the very final stage? The negotiations advanced to a stage where they felt is was important to approach Markstrom about the potential of waiving his no movement clause. Both sides thought a deal was going to get done. Conroy has had his absolute hands full dealing with all of Toffoli, Zadorov, Tanev, Lindholm, Hanifn and Markstrom..
Be a professional, shut your mouth and play the game. That's your job. Let the business side figure itself out. At the end of the day he is still in total of control of where he plays. Throwing a shot a Conroy through the media isn't going to help the situation. Voice your frustrations beyond closed doors if absolutely necessary.

What would you call crying to the media? Last week, he was playing it off nonchalantly "Everyone here is a professional, paid to play hockey, that's all you can do." Now he's calling out management like the professional he is.
