Similar to salary retention slots, I could see something like each team being limited to 2-3 NMCs.

His comments appear to indicate this..

"everything happening and everything not happening.."

I think Craig can wait. Doesn't have to go down this season. Unless NJ is giving everything that Craig is asking, then I say wait.

Stuff happens, shut your mouth.
That is how I read it as well. And he went through the emotions of it, dealing with his family about it, etc., only for nothing to happen. Hard to go through.

But he should have just stopped talking after saying his team-mates have handled it well.

I don’t want to dig through 8 pages. Is there anything saying Markstrom won’t waive now?

Id rather see them continue to retain to get max value. Obviously the Devils are desperate. Leaking that they would just keep him was a good move I think.

No, no one's said anything to that effect.

I'm going to try to chalk it up to Markstrom's "competitive" side.
Agreed.

You’ll never hear me trashing my employer in front of reporters and cameras.

You know what you guys didn’t handle well? Playing good. That’s a wee bit more important that patting yourself on the back for handling trading pending UFAs when we’ve been bottom 10 in the league most of the year.

And I get Markstrom has played reasonably well this year, but come on. What he should be saying is that they have no one but themselves to blame because if the team had performed up to expectations, this wouldn’t be necessary.
"I'm doing relatively good this season!"

Yeah. But you were the worst starting goaltender in the NHL last year. Care to explain?

"Uhh...they shouldnt treat me like this."

Its a two-way street son.

I guess we’re back on the Markstrom to New Jersey trade proposals again:

To New Jersey:
Markstrom

To Calgary:
2024 1st round pick (top 10 protected)
2024 3rd round pick
B-level prospect

Take it a step further and make it a bigger trade:

To New Jersey:
Markstrom + Hanifin (50% retained for rest of this year; extension in place)

To Calgary:
2024 1st round pick (lottery protected)
Conditional 2024 2nd round pick (becomes a 3rd round pick if the Devils miss the playoffs)
Holtz
B-level prospect

You probably wouldn't have a employer if you did that.

I don't get what this team is trying to prove. Even if they make the playoffs and even if, by some miracle, they win a couple rounds, they still don't have the building blocks for sustained success.

Let's move guys like Markstrom when we can get a good return and really do some foundational drafting for the future.

I don’t think he will have as much trade value as right now.

Desperate team needs a goalie right now to push for playoffs. Goalie market will change in summer and it’s rare that you see goalies traded for the value they bring to the team.

Timing is right. Take the best deal you have and move forward. Hopefully this afternoon

Who also gave you a clause in your contract to avoid this, and then asked pretty please for him to waive it.

I get it, he probably wishes he stopped talking to. That’s why reporters ask questions, for slip ups and honest answers.
