If the Flames felt they needed to gain more leverage over the Devils, good for them.
End of the day these players are being traded because they are either leaving anyways, or haven't given the Flames the team they hoped for. The only thing the Flames are obligated to do is to get the absolute best return. Boo hoo if he thinks that means they didn't 'handle' it properly.
I don't know that either of these two apply to Markstrom this season.
I said in the other thread...the team has to take these actions because the team wasn't good enough. The business is winning, they had more than a fair chance to prove they were at least a playoff team.
All these guys wanted 8 year top dollar contracts after missing the playoffs last year and being about the same this year. Sorry guys

I am sure Conroy won't love the comments by Markstrom to start a bunch of drama 1 day before the Kipper jersey retirement.
Not sure what Markstrom was thinking. Just deflect, dude... decline to comment. Should've just left it at his respect for every guy in the room to tune out the noise.
Conroys been bending over backwards for all these guys and Tre did the same thing for Gaudreau and chucky.
So tired of hearing these guys pout then #### over the team on their way out.
I think the Markstrom situation is different. I don’t think Tre was as much of a people person as some make him out to be, at least EQ wise, as he let certain behaviors foster until they boiled over over the years during the sulky Gaureau and Tkachuk year. In Markstroms case it seems like he’s just tired of this not being done and lingering on for so long. I still have respect for him. Gaudreau and Tkachuk were immature babies and I’m glad the two as well as Tre are out. All three played the media like a fiddle.
The way that Markstrom says "Going on, and NOT going on" really makes me think that some of the players maybe think the Flames have let this drag on too long.
Maybe from both a contract and trade perspective.
But honestly that's fine...Conroy has to do what's best for the team long term even if some of it did drag on a bit or if a trade that was close ended up falling through.
And the players dragged it on too with not being super clear on their intentions on being willing to re-sign or not.
