The other thing about almost all the trades Conroy has made - they were expected but the timing has taken everyone a little off guard. He hasn't made a single trade when there was a bunch of smoke that day or the preceding day.

Just read an article by EP Rinkside, where they say that Joni Jurmo is unlikely to get an ELC. It seems he moved teams in Finland due to lack of ice-time, but now the same thing is starting to happen with the new team. They say his puck-rushing style and so-so defensive game doesn’t work as well in the pros, as it did in junior.

Exactly. They might get a better return if the other team is confident he'll re-sign, but at the end of the day, he can still be traded as a rental.

He only has an 8 team no trade list. Those lists are usually submitted in July, so it's likely 6 Canadian teams, Arizona, and Buffalo, or something like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does regardless just so CGY can have a look at him but the notable prospect in that deal was always Brzustewicz.

Yeah, I’m still happier than a pig in s**t that we got Brewski, so I’m not worried either way.

That trade wouldn't go down anyway. No team is going to get all the way to the trade call with the league without already getting an answer to that question.

So now Hanifin's agent has told schlubs like Holland in Edmonton to stop calling, Noah won't be signing with you at any point.
Seravalli saying the agent is "Holding the Flames Hostage" is ridiculous.....he just has nothing to write right now

Wouldn't Hanifin's camp saying such things behind the scenes hurt his next contract negotiations? Like, if he's only willing to sign in two places, why would they offer bigger bucks knowing he won't go elsewhere? Doesn't add up to me...

Also, haven't seen it mentioned, but Tre has stated the Leafs 1st is in play. Could be interesting...

I could only see it, if today was the 7th and not the 1st and all of the teams that Hanifin would agree to sign an extension were out. Then Conroy would have no choice but to try to send him somewhere else as a rental, but I doubt we're at that point today.

Exactly. I can't imagine the Flames trade for him, then immediately not offer him a contract. I would think they plan to bring him here (if he is game) and let the coaches work with him, to see what they've got.

In general, yes, but that doesn't mean that a rental buyer might not have a better offer than a extended buyer. Especially, if the extended buyer has been told that they are one of the only teams that Hanifin will extend for so they feel they can low-ball the Flames.

I think if the Flames made Kylington an insulting offer like that he would just say "thanks for the memories" and go get paid somewhere else. Not sure he will take 175K over the league minimum to play top 4 minutes in Calgary, somebody else would offer him real money.

I don't think its insulting at all.

He just made $5M for playing a few months. Thats a cold way to look at it, and I'm sure the Flames don't, but I think its entirely reasonable to go short term and for less dollars as a show of good faith. And as I mentioned, he needs to play a year with as little stress hanging over him as possible. Another big ticket, long term deal may not be what he needs.

The only thing might be the other dmen that will be in the AHL potentially next year...

Poirier
Kuznetsov
Solovyov
Grushnikov
Brzustewicz
Morin

Think all 6 of those guys are AHL eligible, and they likely will want to add a couple AHL vets. Jurmo could sign but might actually end up starting in the ECHL if he's okay with that.

Sure, but if I am Kylington I just go sign a one year deal with another team for 3 million. Maybe come back to Calgary the year after if they want to up their offer. That is a lot of money to leave on the table if he decided to take a league minimum contract. Not sure why the Flames would even do it, they are going to be nowhere near the cap next year.

Sunk cost - no point in souring the relationship over it. I don't think you need to offer him a big raise either - just make a fair offer for 2 or 3 years, and it's all good.
