Just a bit confused.

If the rumors are true about Noah and his agent then you would think that limits the Flames in their trade partners and the return. I would think with that being said the trade would be happening real soon since the options would be very limited. Why drag this out to the deadline if you have 2 or 3 teams competing for the same guy. Put your best trade forward and move on! Seriously disappointing if this is actually what is going on.

I think we'll retain on Hanifin. Knocking his cap hit to just below $2.5M will be helpful. We should help Vegas, LA or Colorado for sure though with the last retention spot.

LA looks like they are dead lol.

Agreed with Colorado.

There's always been a "Hanifin extended" value and a "Hanifin rental" value and we've had a pretty good idea of where he would sign an extension for quite a while now.
The plan has to be to try to start a bidding war with the teams he would extend with. I believe that was what bringing the agent into the process was all about. If that doesn't materialize, make the best deal with a team who will take him as a rental.

I know it was a back to back, but that team looks like it has zero passion. Maybe its PLD rubbing off on his teammates.

Friedman speculating that the Flames may add a d-man for a relatively inexpensive price.

Marek suggested Erik Johnson from the Sabres.

I will take Erik Johnson if the price is negative.

If you're the Flames, why not take on a somewhat expensive D-man to create space for someone else and a pick while you're at it? Win/win if you need or want D

Nashville buying for the playoffs but wants to get rid of Barrie? Take his salary on for a 3rd or 4th

Yup.

I could see them being a broker to take on a player like Derek Forbort if it opened up room for Boston to make a different trade or Joel Edmundson from Washington. Maybe even Brodie from Toronto.

Where you might even get a mid round pick back for helping.

If the Flames spend an asset for a defenseman I'll be....confused.

Sure. But the Sabres aren’t buyers and they don’t have any problems with cap space.

Then don't give them an asset for their players. Flames need to be smart about this. They have depth D or kids that can get the minutes. This whole staying competitive thing is fine, but not at the expense of common sense.

Can't take out two guys that eat huge minutes for you every night and simply bump every one up the depth chart.

They'll need to bring in an NHL d-man to help soften the blow of losing those guys.

Not sure if that's the one they should target.

I'll accept Erik Johnson only if he comes with a 1st (unconditional) and a prospect for Hanifin.

Staying competitive is dumb in this case. We're going to be out, it's only 25 games, suck as much as possible and get the highest draft pick you can. Then come back with a winning environment next season.

I posted about this yesterday, but to me this same group is the group that dogged it and performed like crap at the beginning of the season when it mattered. Rewarding them for finally coming through when there's no pressure to do so is silly. I understand sending a message but these guys are adults. They know the standings situation. They understand how the league works. They can suck it up for the last 25 games when really they threw out their own chances of success in the first 25. If they want to be rewarded bring this same intensity out of the gates next year.

Erik Johnson had 0 goals 8 assists last year. This year he has 3 goals and 0 assists. Strange player.
