So true. I did it and completely regret it. Instead of taking a year or two off to find the right college I just wanted to get the hell out of here and start life on my own and took the first course I saw that had 3D Animation in it.

Well it would not completley eliminate racism but in my honest opinion it would give you (in general) a better understanding of others. I'm Sikh and have never read the Bible but I would very much like too, simply because I dont understand certain things, I don't even get the meaning behind the book title 'East of Eden'. Also how many of us have made quick assumptions of the Muslim religion? I know I have been guilty in the past but after learning about it (through friends) I have a much better understanding of their religion.

My friend (who I had a huge crush on in highschool and still regret never telling her then) will back that up. She said it's costing her more to divorce than it was to get married and it was six years wasted and the only thing good she got out of it was her daughter.
My sister and her boyfriend have been together for 14 years and have brought up marriage a couple times but both agree it's nothing more than a piece of paper and are happy the way it is.

Overrated: Having it all
Underrated: Brief periods of hardship or misery
Seriously, life is only truly appreciated through contrast.
Have a good night sleep then wake up and put on a nice hoodie and lounge on the couch and you'll probably not think too much about it. . . .
But get caught out underprepared in a real mean downpour and get really truly chilled to the bone then come home, strip off your wet clothes and put on that same hoodie and curl up on that same couch -- it's like winning the freakin' lottery.
Health scares that pass, brushes with disaster that are gotten past -- those things will let you truly appreciate even the most mundane of everyday comforts. It's those like Paris Hilton, who are born with a silver spoon and never go wanting, who can least appreciate the comforts of life.

Overrated: Just a Highschool Diploma
Underrated: The Importance of a Postsecondary Education
Okay let me explain this one, how many of us continuously say 'it's very important to have a highschool diploma' ?? I'm guessing majority of us, what I dont understand is why a highschool diploma? Why don't we emphasise the importance on a Degree??? I believe a highschool diploma will only get you so far, why limit yourself when you can preach a postsecondary education? Is it because it's the easiest to aim at? the cost of a postsecondary education? Do we really believe that the best we (our children) can do is just a highschool diploma? I know I know before University/College comes a highschool diploma but we need to stop focusing on JUST A HIGHSCHOOL DIPLOMA.

I see what you are saying about high school, but I view a high school diploma as something like a driver's license. Hard to get ANYWHERE in life without it. Sort of something necessary in our society.
I don't have my degree quite yet, but I'll say a Bachelor's degree is over rated. When I started University, I thought a degree would set me apart. Now I know that a tonne of dumbasses will end up with the same degree as me, so I'll need to do a little more to stick out in life.

It did surprise me when I first came to Alberta how finishing highschool was viewed as a big accomplishment by many. Coming from a place like Kamloops where good paying labour jobs are very rare unless you have good family connections most people were going to some type of college at least.
But I think a university education is a touch over rated and that tech/trade schools are under rated. You learn good hands on skills that will often stay in high demand and the extra work experience you can get will allow you a lot of options very quickly. Although the over rated part of University education can relate to those who go straight to uni not really knowing what they want to do and end up getting nothing accomplished in their first two years. I remember a room mate who always complained that I made more than him even though I went to school for 2 years and he went for 7. Difference was I finished my program in the minimum number of years and he could have been done in 4 himself had he actually worked when he was in school. The fact that I did more in my two years of school than he would have in 4+ and I was working 1100 hours a year more than he was working didn't really don on him. Than when you consider the benefits, pension, and other stuff he got he probably was even with me, and was working way less than I was.

Agreed. A high school diploma is a minimum requirement and should hardly qualify as an accomplishment at all. Unfortunately the bachelor's degree is going the same route, it's value is rapidly diminishing as well, and the argument of continuing education (PHD, Masters, Grad Studies) are simply impractical for most applications in life.
Experience doing what you want to be doing is what seperates people.

Interesting fact. . . you don't actually need a highschool "diploma" to get into University. You just need the high school course prerequisites for your given program. Hurray for lazy yet highly intelligent people informing me of this little tidbit.

overrated: hot weather. my feet stink and its too hot to move right now. at night when it cools off and you actually want to do something, in calgary at least, its frickin freezing and you have to wear pants.
underrated. cold weather. hockey, the nfl, cfl playoffs and skiing all occur during these months nuff said
seriously though if it never got hotter than about 23 or 24 degrees i would be a happy man. with a slight breeze.
theres nothing better than watching the riders beat the stamps in the west semifinal/final when its blizzarding.

That's very true, as long as you're doing what you want to do that's fine, whether it requires a postsecondary education or not.

You're right you don't need a highschool diploma to get into University BUT you will need (if you're not a mature student) 4 core subjects and 1 CTS course which really is a highschool diploma. If you're a mature student all you really need is English 30 mainly, or just an appointment with the associated Dean.

Sorry, you misinterpreted what I was saying, or perhaps I wasnt being clear. If you are going into post-secondary education, whether you want to co-op or not it is experience that counts.
Experience is the great equalizer, education is the trump card.
I have worked in establishments where I was far and away the most educated person there, however, Joe Blow who has worked that job for 10 years is without a doubt significantly better at it than I. The thing is, after 6 months with a proper work ethic and attitude I am ready to not only do the same, but overtake that long time employee.
I dont care what the advertising slogans for post-secondary are, I will always maintain that University (and University specifically, not all Canadian colleges and not trade schools) doesnt teach you how to get a job. It teaches you how to learn and think. Thats what is really important, anyone can tow the line and get a high school diploma, but you had better be willing to put up or shut up for a university degree worth its salt.
But thats just my attitude and opinion, so take it for what its worth and you'll get your money's worth.
Locke.

I agree especially with the piece bolded in red.
I was talking to my younger sister yesterday about this whole Diploma vs. Degree issue and she's a in Grade 10 and what she said to me in a way shocked me. She said if I can't do well in highschool then there is no point and no way I'll do good in University. I compeletley disagree with that, University is much more different then Highschool the biggest difference being you will be (hopefully) studying something you have a passion for, and passion is what will drive you too succeed. IMO that is what happens when you stress just a Diploma, first we're teaching that a Diploma alone is enough, and secondly we're saying if you can't get a Diploma then you really aren't worth anything, which is so not true. Like someone mentioned earlier you don't even need a Diploma to get into University especially if you're a mature student.
Overrated: Dr. Phil
Does anyone hate him as much as I do?? His show seems to be getting more and more dramatic and he says the same boring things over & over again.
