The sticker shock might kill it but I don't think it's completely out of line... It'd be a real all-in move by Treliving thou and I doubt he'd pull the trigger.

How much does Tanev being moved affect Markstrom's performance? I seem to remember the Flames record without Tanev being poor.

Cmon conman. Want to see another fleecing.
What big holes are we going to have to fill now? Before deadline I would have said a goal scorer. Now I’d say defence.
It would be nice to pick up a young 2/3 slot center and a number 3 dman somehow. Hopefully coronato moves up next year to the big club.
Flames should have cap space so they could tap into free agency to fill gaping holes.
High drama

On the Marek show, when discussing Hanifin, Friedman brought up Washington as a possibility. I certainly hadn't thought of them before as an option.

Hanifin at 50%
To Boston for
Poitras, lohrei, (maybe a pick? 2nd?)
Poitras is out but fills a need. I think lohrei is going to be good and instantly slots into 5th D for now.
Weegar - Andersson
Kylington - Pachal
Lohrei - Gilbert (for fun, Grushnikov)
Maybe down the line you split up Weegar and Andersson to have more balanced left right.
Lundell would be great but would love to address the NHL level defence too.

They signed Mangiapane to a series of short term contracts. As he progressively got better the contracts got larger. The Mangiapane model is the opposite of a long term contract strategy for your players.

I wondered about a guy like Connor McMichael. Sounds like Conroy wants a young C back, but I admittedly don't know a lot about the Caps or their roster/system outside the top guys.
I also don't know a lot about Cristall either TBF.

He’s a point-producing machine that has gotten better every year in junior. Plays RW.

See the Ras contract, many around the league reacted with the classic "Who?" when we signed him to his current deal, look how sweet it is now. Same with Lindy, Hanifin etc.
I mean just look at NJ, Hughes and Bratt at 8mil a piece is larceny.
|
Exactly this. The contracts they did this on (overpaying a young guy at the time for a longterm contract) were the following imo
Lindholm - 6 years 4.95 million
Hanifin - 6 years 4.95 million
Rasmus - 6 years 4.55 million.
With Manj after 2020 when he produced at about a 21 goal 18 assists pace over 82 games the Flames signed him to a two year 2.425 million dollar deal. After he produced again they signed him to a 3 year 5.8 million dollar deal. Effectively it was two contracts that ended up being 5 years 22.25 million with a contract to be negotiated next year. Probably would have been better in hindsight to sign Mang to a 7 year 28 million dollar contract after his breakout year in 19/20.

How about if we brought in a stop gap dman for the rest of the year like Tyson Barrie once Hanifin is traded. Could be had for nothing (or may even come with a sweetener) and then is UFA. Would at least help the PP.

Makes some sense. Pinder figures the Flames will look at him in free agency this off season too.

Too small to pull off this stuff against better players, and not really competitive enough to be in a non scoring role. He might score a bit in the AHL. But I wouldn't be giving him any value in a trade.

If this helps to finish bottom 10 next season I'm sold.

Friedman threw out the Caps as a suitor for Hanifin today.
