Yes an extra second is good, but this is another good piece sold at 80% of it’s value, just like Lindholm and Zadorov.

Cam Whynot is a better prospect than Grushnikov and this team didn’t even sign him.
Both Whynot and Grushnikov were 2021 picks. Cam Whynot is currently playing at Acadia University and is struggling to put up offensive numbers there.

Replace Tanev with future Tanev.

Checks out.

So has our development defensive depth gone from nothing to pretty reasonable now?

You need a Tanev trade to kickstart the trade deadline domino so Flames can get better return on Hanafin and possibly Markstrom

Maybe the 4th NJ just acquired will come into play in a further deal.

Is Grushnikov ready to play in the NHL? I say they should give him 20+ games and then bring him into a permanent 3rd pairing role next season. Could be a solid 5th dman and young.

I want happy with the toffoli trade and was happy with the lindholm trade.

I agree with the sentiments of Tanev being a valuable shut down top 2 dman who skates Well and makes a good breakout pass. That’s a valuable commodity. Plus he can play against top players in the league very well. I’m surprised more teams weren’t in on him. Watch Dallas go to the finals now and Tanev make other gms look stingy. Ah well, maybe the flames can resign him now? Maybe it why the value is what it is in that he’s coming back here to finish his career.

Some people's expectations are way too high for these deals.

Don't forget, neither the greasers or laffs got him, and it makes a run for the media darlings up north that much harder

So we traded a 34 Yo Tanev for a 2nd and 20 Yo Tanev like prospect? Not too bad.

So that's 4/5 of the major pending UFAs traded.
Toffolo - NJ
Zadorov - VAN
Lindholm - VAN
Tanev - DAL
Hanifin - ?

At lot of us are feeling impatient, but Conroy has actually gotten a lot done.

After spending way more time on capfriendlys depth charts on teams like Dallas, NJ, FLA, Boston in relation to potential returns, Groshnikov made a lot of sense to me as a return for Tanev. It's why I posted this exact trade yesterday (or the day before) . It just made sense. Flames got some RHD depth but came up a little short on LHD. And the 24 2nd seemed like the right balance for Tanev. 2x2nd round picks is a better return than a 30th or lower 1st round pick.

If Grushnikov develops into anything resembling Tanev then actually he is a “flashy” prospect.

We should never forget: We're selling because our players aren't very good, and the team isn't very good because of it.

This is not a great return, but it is better than nothing - and that's an improvement for this organization.

As Flames fans, our hopes often lead us away from the cold, harsh truth of our reality.
