Ya I'm sure Murray is salivating at the prospect of an extra 4-5 million that a round would generate. /s

Two points for keeping Markstrom that aren't playoff revenue.
1. great goalies don't come around very often, it gives wolf time to over mature.
2. the team being competitive is better for prospect development then bottoming out. ( that said, being competitive isn't great for prospect procurement).

Only problem with this is that, right now at this very moment Goalies are at an all time high in value.
There are quite a very contenders with weak goaltending or teams that have crashed (like New Jersey) due to weak goaltending.
I understand in an ideal world Wolf has a superstar as a mentor but we will never get the rumoured package again for Marky.
It's essentially now or never and getting back Mercer or a first + is more than worth it.

Hasn't this never been less true?
They moved their leading goal and point producer, their 5th dmen, their number one center, and are about to move both members of their top defense pairing but we still want to hang this on the owner being greedy because they held the line on their goaltender with two years left on his contract?

That’s why I think they should trade Markstrom now

If they’re even their usual try hard selves next year, we don’t get a 1st round pick.
Punt the ball.

I don't know Bingo. I didn't write the article. Fluto Shinzawa clearly has heard this from someone in league circles.

I was responding to you thinking it was true, not to a Boston writer from across the continent taking a stab at something with zero knowledge.
Nothing "clearly" about it.

If Edwards was "desperate" for the 5M in revenue he would probably have been open to shedding salary instead of spending to the cap every year not to mention paying multiple coaches every year.

I think it just shows how out of touch with the Flames some of these Athletic reporters are.

Someone from Boston telling us they are desperate for playoff revenue, after traded away 3 players, and have 3 more potentially to go.

Agreed
I think in the offseason you could see a goalie trade market that includes:
Ullmark
Saros
Markstrom
Thompson
Gibson
Binnington
And then you also have the following veteran free agents:
Cam Talbot: .913
Jonathan Quick: .916
Anthony Stolarz: .925
Laurent Brossoit: .922
Alex Nedeljkovic: .915
Kaapo Kahkonen: .901
MA Fleury: .899
Suddenly teams looking for a goalie in a trade have other top end options available potentially if Ullmark and Saros hit the market. And while none of those free agents are long term solutions, the Devils might think it's better to keep the assets, and just sign a veteran that can play 40 games and share the net with Daws.
I've made way too many posts about this in the past week, but I really can't shake the feeling that the Flames really missed an opportunity to sell Markstrom at peak value to the Devils a week or two ago, and potentially were too focused on a single player as the return.

It ain't over until the deadline. Lots of time for teams to circle back. If they were as close as they reportedly were. There's always the strong possibility it gets revisited before things cross the deadline.

From what I gather it wasn’t a disagreement over a player that was the snag, but the pick that the Devils would have to give up for two years retention on Markstrom.
But yeah, it will be a missed opportunity if the trade market this summer is soft, and they end up moving Markstrom at the deadline next season for a 2nd and a 3rd.
