I feel like Vancouver could feel pressure to add especially with how underwhelming Lindy has been to start, with all the EP smoke you’d have to think there is a tad bit more pressure to push chips all in and deal with potential ramifications in the offseason. I could see the nucks making a splash for Guentzel while using his recent injury to try and mitigate the cost as much as possible.

I think by now teams know what they'd get in Guentzel.

Dave Pagnotta says Jusse Saros wants $8M+ on his next contract. If true, I think that helps Marky's summertime trade value when the best/biggest alternative is asking for a huge payday.

I think the biggest reason for that is because Saros has basically been taken off the market with Nashville surging and occupying a wild card position.

That paired with the fact that Trotz was expecting ‘the moon’ back if he were to trade him, I can’t see the Devils not reconsidering JM before the deadline… honestly Philly too with the Hart situation and them occupying a division spot.

I figure Philly would be in the market for Vladar rather than Markstrom. Ersson has been pretty good all season for them and is only 24

...in spite of the fact that his goals saved above expected total for this season is -1.9, leaving him 61st in the league in that stat.

Is that a huge payday for one of the only long time stable #1 goalies in the NHL? Saros seems like one of the few goalies who would be guaranteed to play at a #1 level through the course of a longer contract. Seems like an understatement if anything.

Markstrom at some amount of retention and being a proven starter has a ton of value to a team with an up and coming tendy. You have to be really careful at those ages too, so many ascend too quickly and fizzle out because of it. I get what you’re saying and could definitely see them having interest in Vald, but Marky would be a stabilizing presence in the crease and not for just this year.

Would $8M be considered excessive for a goalie like Saros? Considering his stats over his career and some of the other goalie contracts handed out over the last 10 years, I don't personally think $8M is out of line for a goalie of his caliber. The only issue I might see with that is that it seems more teams are running a 1A/1B tandem these days and so perhaps $8M on a 1A goalie would make it challenging for a team run a strong tandem.

I was listening to Ray and Dregs, because someone on here posted one of their shows. Dregs was saying there was a mystery team inquiring about Saros which would make Ray laugh if he heard the team’s name. Maybe that team is Philly, and you’d laugh because they’ve needed a goalie forever.

Nashville had a brutal, brutal start, I agree with you - right now Marky is a more valuable goalie I would agree as well - but we have to remember too, a large amount of us were very frustrated with Marky from his performance against Edmonton in round 2 all the way through all of last year, and while there was a lot of turmoil going on, people would have been laughed at if the packages being rumoured around Markstrom right now were suggested prior to Markstrom catching fire again. It’s an unprecedented scenario honestly, can’t remember this much smoke in the lead up to a TDL around high end starters.

Just give me lots of draft picks, I'll enjoy watching a boat load of prospects the next couple years. As it stands we only have 1 extra draft pick this year so far? We need many more!

Was responding to hitterd - thought I had hit the quote button; it was in response to Philly looking at Vlad over Marky, with Ersson having a good showing at 24 I think a retained Markstrom actually holds a ton of value for Philly and would keep NJD at bay making playoffs not quite a lock for them but definitely stronger. I doubt they do it but would understand if they did, playoff aspirations can make teams do some crazy things at TDLs

The term will likely be more of an issue as he will be 31 to start the deal. 5 years or less, might be okay. Longer has risks. Other issue is a starter that age for that long can block the younger guys. So for New Jersey players like Schmid and Dawes still are part of the plan I suspect. Just not fully cooked today.

That board has the Edmonton 1st round pick listed as 5th best piece available… wouldn’t put that much stock into it lol.
