Ah! Sorry. I totally forgot what it was called. I essentially 'hate-watched' it.
I think theres even a second season but I cant. I just cant.

Tenet was visually stimulating but all the spectacle felt like it had little purpose or meaning in the end.
I must confess I was just lukewarm on Arrival, and I love those kinds of movies.. I don't know what it was that just didn't hit for me. Better story than Tenet though.
Bladerunner 2049 is my favourite movie overall from that list, followed by Interstellar.
I'm hoping Dune 2 can dethrone BR but that will be tough.

So good on both sides.
Aggressively good.

Dunkirk was worse than Tenet.

Efron was also great as Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Someone else mentioned Iron Claw as well, which was criminally underrated from last year. It should have received more attention during awards season, everyone was great in that movie.
As for Nolan vs Villeneuve it's incredibly close.. throw in David Fincher and those are probably my three favourite directors of this generation. My top three movies of the last 15 years are Oppenheimer, Prisoners, and Zodiac. Honestly you can't lose picking any of their movies, and they each continue to make modern classics (The Killer by Fincher is another underrated 2023 movie).

Fincher's last two films were total duds. I want to believe Netflix is the problem.

Robert Eggers, Yorgos Lanthimos and Ari Aster are in my B tier. Not quite at the same heights but their films are can't-miss for me.

Dumb and Dumber is delightfully dumb, and I can't help but love it.
While Colin Farrell and Barry Keoghan received praise for their portrayals of dimwits in The Banshees of Inisherin, poor Jeff Daniels must feel overlooked for his role in Dumb and Dumber.
There were a couple of scenes I didn't recognize, leading me to assume they'd been buried in my memory over time. It later dawned on me that I was watching the unrated version, which ups the homophobic themes between characters, and were as unfunny as they were unnecessary. One was an extended honeymoon motel scene, and I think the other was an elongated Sea Bass encounter in the bathroom. There was more to the toilet scene toward the end as well.

Watched it again a couple weeks ago and liked it way more. Plus I read Cole's notes or something like that summarizing the book, so I understood more about the universe going in, which I think you kind of need to really get what the movie is doing. Going in cold on my first watch was a mistake.

I suspect that isn't uncommon. My brother prides himself on having never read a single book in his life, and he couldn't get through Dune. Another person I know read it 20+ years ago and even with a pretty faint idea what was going on in the movie, had a hard time really getting into it.
Judging by the trailer for part 2, it looks like they're going to up the complexity by introducing characters that ought to have been in part 1. My feeling is they're going to make this as easily digestible as the first film, but with the added benefit of the first film having created a foundation to build upon. If that makes sense. I'm too tired to edit this for clarity.
I've got my tickets for Friday morning!

Interstellar is by far the best Nolan for me. I haven't seen 2une yet, but I really do think Tenet (which I remember thinking was fine) really brings down the average. BR 2049 and Arrival are movies I love just as much as Interstellar. So I'm leaning towards CanCon on this one.

Watched The Beekeeper last night. Typical Statham romp which was decent fun. I thought the acting outside of Statham was pretty poor, borderline sucked. But good to see him kick ass on screen for a bit.

Just gonna hop in here to say that Intersteller continues to be the most incredible movie ever made.
Even upon repeated watchings, it's firmly entrenched in my #1 overall.
