I am a little confused. Every year, GMs make dumb moves by paying way too much for depth players. 1st round picks get traded for players worse than Tanev.
So, for some reason - this is the year GMs have smartened up? The year the Flames need the seller market to be hot and when players are doing their part by playing well.
Weird.

It is amazing to me that we seemingly finally have management willing to make the long term decision that's best for franchise and fans. Selling the ufas in spite of proximity to the wildcard is the right move. Plus the team continues to win anyways!
Gfg.
Let's build for the future.

It’s because no one was expecting a 1st for Chiarot or that insane overpay for Jeannot. Hopefully a GM gets nervous and pulls the trigger on something stupid.
I am glad Conroy moved Lindholm sooner though.
If they extend Toffoli he will likely be getting a raise (probably around 1 million more). Holtz will still be on his ELC next year whereas Mercer will not. Mercer might want to bridge but I can't see him costing less than 3 million on his bridge deal.
Where can Jersey find the money to give both Mercer and Toffoli raises for roughly 3 million dollars ?

Isn't the cap scheduled to jump up this off-season?
I think they might try to move Meier before his NTC clause kicks in.
Who’s taking that. PLD, Kyrou, and Huberdeau are the only contracts I can think of that they could swap for. I don’t think think the Kings or Blues take it and Huberdeau doesn’t do them much cap wise.
Darren Dreger got a tidbit about trade talk for Saros. Nashville asked for the moon and the receiving team couldn't believe it. DD wouldn't say what team, but it's obviously a GM he is chummy with (Rob Blake?). It could be NJ, but doesn't seem like it. Market for a goalie is bigger than NJ it seems though. Go to minute 16:00. I couldn't get link to go directly there.

Indeed it was from what i heard.
The ask was...
Mercer
Holtz
Vanacek
1st
and another pick.
Trotz just laying it out for anyone interested in Saros...you want the player? It's gonna cost you plenty.
I think Trotz is more inclined to keep Saros, but as with anyone/anything, there is a price point that cannot be dismissed.

I still think Markstrom's value at the draft will be considerably lower than it is now. It will be one less playoff run for the acquiring team. And since goalies are so unpredictable, there would be a lot more risk with the quality of Markstrom's play moving into next season.
NJ now only has an 18% chance of making the playoffs. We're getting near the end of the line. If a trade doesn't happen, it's a major disappointment both for Fitzgerald and for Conroy.
Agree with this. Time to blink for one of them and make the smart decision. Markstrom’s value collapses after this because of obvious reasons.

As he should. The idea that marquee starters in this league have repressed value because goalies are weird is dopey AF. Hilarious that teams without functioning goaltending currently pissing away their seasons would think this way.
