Noah Hanifin provides Exhibit A why the Calgary Flames want to keep him or can expect a big haul in a trade

If anyone questions why the Flames desperately have tried to keep Hanifin in the fold with a long-term extension, it was on full display on a night he reached a career high with his 11th goal of the season, and came within a couple of inches of completing a hat trick when a long empty-net attempt rang off the post.

I am so confused.

On one hand I think we need to rack up a bunch of Wins before we jettison Tanev/Hanifin/Markstrom, because its going to be really tough to keep any sort of pace without them.

But on the other hand...is there a point? We look like we're driving into typical Flames territory of...'just out of the playoffs' and as such the worst possible outcome.

I'll never cheer for losses, but winning is screwing us over. This system is broken.

Unless Conman can work some magic I think wins will be hard to come by if they trade Tanev, Hanifin and Markstrom at the deadline.

I have a feeling they won’t all be leaving. But only the conman really knows.

I hope Hanafin racks up the points, Markstrom the hilight reel saves, Tanev the injury-free shifts?....and yet we still lose. The only thing that matters long term is improving our draft position and trade haul.
