Getting elite offensive talent is hard. You need that in order to win in this league.
If Holtz can fill the net that’s exactly what we need. You can draft depth 2nd and 3rd line players in the draft as well. If the Devils won’t include Mercer I’d pull the trigger on a 1st and Holtz and the prospect for retention.

Mercer has been playing with Lazar and Nosek on line 3. Sometimes he switches with Holtz and gets time on line 4.

Ekblad has been one of Florida's strongest defenders this year, production notwithstanding. I think he'd make Ottawa significantly better. Might be time for a change of scenery for him.

That's not what I've read today. There's charts and graphs ppl saying Ekblad and Forsling make up one of the best D pairings in the league.

You might but Conroy won't. Remember, this is a guy the Flames are not shopping right now. They are perfectly fine with keeping him and then re-evaluating in the off season. I stick by what I said, it will take an overpayment for Markstrom to move.

Not much longer now though!
This will be an exciting *checks calendar* 11 days!

Time will prove out on this one. I think being proactive and dealing him now is the best use of the asset, and fits with the “trust the youth” movement Connie is bringing along.
Time will tell!

Had you told me Holtz + 1st + Casey (potentially) was available two months ago I would have said that's a huge overpayment
To me there is a lot of risk is waiting until the offseason and hoping to get a better offer. I think his peak value is right now (unless you think Buffalo or another team outside the playoff picture will overpay in the offseason). Plus he has to agree to moving to whoever has the best offer too, and he seems willing to move to New Jersey.
Really feels like Conroy might just be too fixated on a player that New Jersey isn't likely to move. It's okay to really push for a specific asset, but sometimes you also have to be flexible to garner maximum return too.

A 1st and Holtz is an overpayment for a goalie in my mind.
The thought of Treliving sending our 1st for Bishop still haunts me.

I always wonder about sources of stories, and where the info is coming from. For instance, Frank saying that the market is soft for Hanifin is obviously NOT coming from the Flames. I’d wager it’s not coming from another team either.
So…..an agent. Would Hanifin’s agent (Pat Brisson) be leaking this info? And if so, why? Why would he be slowing/hurting his players road out of Calgary?
Or is Frank just pulling crap out of thin air to make the story juicier, to get more clicks?
I’ll go with the later.

He's TMZ Frank for a reason. He comes across as a smarmy know-it-all. Almost like a car salesman. Actually, he reminds me of Herb from WKRP in Cincinnati.

Agents will not destroy their reputation by doing dumb things like killing a players trade value. Pat Brisson is one of the top agents in the league, I don’t he would do that.
Outside of Edmonton I don’t think management teams are leaking things and trying to pull a fast one on their colleagues.
Seems like Frank is in desperate need of clicks. Sad that Flames nation brings him on.

Their 1st rounder is going to be good this year so they probably keep it, and that leaves two years for them to choose a pick to forfeit for lying about Dadonov.

That was the outlier.
He saw over 20 minutes on Saturday.
Averaging more than 17 minutes this season.

Don’t you ever say anything bad about my boy Herb Tarlek again.

I'll be mildly disappointed if we don't deal Markstrom, in my opinion it shouldn't take an absolute overpayment. He has value right now, he didn't last year and good chance if we sell our D he won't have very good numbers next year either.

100% zero chance that is the offer on the table, the deal would be done already. If you subtract Mercer it’s probably closer to reality.
