I kind of feel like New Jersey has to win the next two games to keep the Markstrom trade talks alive. I know they want him for the next two seasons but I think they can get him cheaper in the offseason.
Lose/lose for the Flames if Markstrom stays. He’ll keep stealing points but I think it will get a lot harder once Tanev and Hanifin are gone.

I gotta admit, I’m just as excited for that extra first, as I am to get one of Holtz or Mercer. Can’t wait for the draft, it’s gonna be a blast!

Have to agree with this. Looking at standings as of right now they have some work to do to make the playoffs. Even if Markstrom was traded today I highly doubt he would be able to play for them this weekend because of visa issues. 2 loses this weekend and devils are done. At that point they can take their time to acquire a goalie. hoping devils win this weekend to keep Markstrom trade alive. That said I only want Markstrom traded if we are getting a haul for him. I still think he would be a great mentor for wolf next season. Plus flames aren’t rebuilding they are re-tooling with hopes of making playoffs next year.

I took this image last summer and hope it can manifest into a finalized trade.
Also... I'm returning to the area again this year so if anyone wants to split on a Flames decal to cover up that Devils one, lemme know!

Hey look, it's the arena I played minor hockey out of, didn't think I'd see that here of all places.

Kind of agree, I somewhat think if the trade doesn’t go down today where Markstrom plays for them this weekend then there is a very high likelihood that it won’t happen prior to the trade deadline.

I really hope that isn't the case. Seems like a good way to give Florida an 11-14th overall pick. The D will be bottom three in the league.

He's had at least a half dozen final games as a Flames in the last few weeks.

With Lindholm, Tanev and Hanifin, and a great Marky this season), the Flames are not a playoff team.
You subtract Lindholm, Tanev and Hanifin, and that's a very tough challenge ahead.
Anything can happen of course, but I see this as more of a forced rebuild than a retool.

Marky could likely not play this weekend anyway with visa issues.

I’m not getting my hopes up for a Markstrom trade anymore. I think time has run out.

Yeah, if the lose against Tampa have to think they throw in the towel on chasing it this year. Best hope at this point is they win 5 in a row with bad goaltending and pay up right before the deadline.

I believe in the Jays.
|
I feel like if Markstrom is going then he has to go now. If NJ loses anymore they may just punt addressing goaltending until the offseason and their options are greater then and if NJ is out then the Flames have less leverage over other potential partners. Hell... if I was NJ and I was still interested I'd probably be attaching conditions to any picks in the package regardless.

I can barely even imagine Markstrom being traded because it's just so out of character for the Flames to trade a player while their value is at a high. Especially if it's at the expenses of current on-ice success.
But I still hope it gets done. If it does get done, I'll have a ton of respect for Conroy. A huge differentiation from Treliving.

Friedman throwing Florida out there as a potential Hanifin destination this morning on 32 Thoughts.
Suggests the 4 teams everyone looking at for Hanifin are Boston, Tampa, Florida & Devils.
Talk about Florida suggests maybe they could do a sign and trade. All him just spitballing.
"If Hanifin is willing to sign an extension in Florida. What do they think of that?"
Heard Lundell's name out there a little bit. "Can't imagine the Panthers want to do that" but if its possible that sort of player would be "right up Calgary's wheelhouse"
Toronto would prefer a RHD, Hanifin isn't signing there anyway
