Truculent!

Get Kuzmenko and Huberdeau a real center, they will be fine.
Sharangovich ain't it.

How many years will Huby have left at that time? 7? You still need to get the best out of him long term, it's a retool, not a rebuild. If him and Kuzy make magic together if I am Conroy I am looking at a long term contract rather than a trade. I am not though so who knows what will happen.

Kuzmenko will be 29 this time next year. Even if he's putting up a point per game, the Flames better not be thinking long term contract, especially for a player who has already had massive swings between seasons.

Would all depend on if Kuzmenko would be open to signing a 2-3 year deal if he is playing well. If he wants term next year and is playing well then ship hi out

What is wrong with term if you have Huby for term? Just don't give him any trade protection so you have options.

Having Huby for term is what got us into this mess to begin with. I hope they don't compound it.

Yeah lets not double down on Huberdeau experiment.
He's an overpaid middle 6 support winger.
Try and work around it, don't throw good money after bad.
We're capped out on top 9 wingers. We need to start clearing some slots not locking in more.

That would be a gut punch to the retool or rebuild if we signed him to a long term deal.
I hope we have learned long term should be for after ELC or a 2-3 bridge not after career years at 29/30.
If we hit our picks, and get good prospects back Huberdeau will have plenty of talent to make magic with.

By keeping a guy capable of scoring 40 goals while bringing out the best in him? I swear some of you think the end goal is to be absolutely brutal long term. The team wants to get back to being competitive as fast as possible, not suck ass for the next decade.

Mangiapane should be traded to make room for wingers.
After that the Flames have Huberdeau, Coleman, Kuzmenko, Sharangovich, Zary, Coronato, Pelletier.
The framework is there. We need centers and defense.
Long term I think Kuzmenko is the odd man out. I think the Flames want Sharangovich inked long term. 5 years at 4.5 or something? That seems fair.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Agreed. Mangiapane may soon be blocking younger players. As soon as next season actually.

I’ll take a team that is able to think both long term and short term at the same time, thanks.

We're like a couple months into rebuild/retool mode. I sure hope you're not getting impatient now, because right now a move like that is how you stay brutal forever. We're still early in the process of getting rid of old players, still extremely talent thin, with very little coming up the pipeline.

Or trading a player like that for futures is how you end up the Buffalo Sabres. It isn't like Kuz will be 37 when the Flames turn the corner, the goal is to be competitive by the time the arena opens. Kuzmenko will 32, he doesn't rely on his skating but his shot and his smarts which will be the same then as it is now. As long as you don't hand him a NMC you always have options to move him if it isn't working out. What you don't want is to build a team that is ready to compete except they are missing a Kuzmenko on the wing.

Some recency but some of it is because the concerns about him heading it the draft seemed to return at the WJCs. I was surprised when he made the NHL and then seemed to do well. So perhaps he's one of those rare types that performs better at high levels, or is he being boosted by being apart of such a damn good overall team, such that if you take that away - he's not that guy.
That's the assessment I think.

So that I’m clear multiple people are saying if this ruskie finds real chemistry with our highest paid player and makes said player play up to his contract we should ship that guy out because he’s 29 and the assets we get back could be anything, even someone who helps Huberdeau play up to his contract?

I think it’s pretty clear that the Flames view the Kuzmenko situation similar to how Montreal viewed the Monahan one.
Take a on a cap dump in order to make the money work in the Lindholm trade, do you best to put him in situations to find personal success and then try to get some assets for him at next year’s trade deadline.
I don’t see Kuzmenko as a top 6 contributor when the Flames are ready to compete again. He shot over 27% last season.
