Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Wouldn't this also sort of gut the Bruins D depth / vets for the playoffs?

Yeah, I don't think risking getting caught in a bald faced lie is a great strategy for GMs. I can see them saying vague things about other teams being interested, but to specify rival team, especially if it isn't true, is dirty negotiating. He would quickly lose trust amongst his peers for something like that. Reputation matters in this business.

Grzelcyk might even get more than a 2nd as a rental depending how thick the market gets. He's got great stats, and isn't expensive right now.

for sure. I think Boston pulling the plug on his season was smart though, he should be ready in July or August and playing it safe instead of risking further damage is always a good call, especially with a young player.

Toronto might take either Forbort or Grzelcyk as a rental.

I have heard that Poitras is excellent defensively, though I haven't personally seen much of his play.
Can anyone speak to this?

I'd like to understand why some are not high on Poitras when they are high on Mercer. IMO these players have pretty similar profiles; Poitras' point pace is very similar to Mercer's rookie season pace but Mercer was 20 when Poitras is 19. Poitras doesn't have the top speed of mercer but is agile and is known for being tough in the corners.
I'd say they're a very similar profile of player, age advantage to Poitras. I like acquiring this player.

I hope so. We will need a Backlund replacement somewhere down the road. If Poitras can score 40 points a year while playing against the top players of the league 5v5 and play PK1 I would be thrilled with it.

Maybe Grzelcyk is the perfect addition to Markstrom for NJ to acquire...

I don’t believe you can make the Bruins as a 19 year old second round pick without being excellent defensively.

Probably recency ...
He didn't look great at the WJC coming back from the NHL

imagine getting them both (Markstrom to NJ, Hanifin to BOS) ... would set us up extremely nicely down the middle going forward.
People need to remember that Poitras made a top NHL team at 19. That is darn impressive ... I get he didn't have the best WJC, but chances are his shoulder was already banged up at that point.

Yep. This isn't buying a car where it's a one-off relationship and win/lose.
GMs have to continue to work together. Better off in the long run building productive relationships than playing tricks.

Jimmy Murphy has no sources on the Bruins and is just talking out his ass.. He’s like a local version of Eklund for them. Dude used to get into it with HF posters who called out his bs. Some of the posters here are more plugged in to the team than Jimmy thin skins is to the Bruins.
I would be surprised if the Bruins traded Poitras in a package for Hanifin. They need centers, and younger forwards in general. They don’t particularly need Hanifin as badly.
Also not really Sweeney’s MO to trade his prospects. He much prefers dealing draft picks., I suspect they stand pat for the most part. This isn’t the year to be going all in, at least in my opinion. Too many have hole up front.

Poitras’ 5v5 GA/60 of 1.97 would suggest the young man knows his way around his own zone.

Trading 2 dman for a potential rental seems strange as well, you would think they want depth for the playoffs and not depleting from it.
