I'm sure you joined a lot of team sports and fought for the freedom to say your indifferent to death of another person on a forum. It just wouldn't make sense otherwise.
Thanks for the clarification though. I truly hope things turn around for you. Maybe you have seen combat and you had to be indifferent.

Reason: Too much
Ugh, this #### is the weakest “get out of anything I say” card.
Do you honestly believe that I think that every Bill Maher fan is transphobic? It was very clearly meant to be a joke regarding the direction Maher has taken his show/persona as of late and who he seems to be trying to cater to.
If you're too thin-skinned to take something that light, maybe take a break from the internet.
Would you take being called a transphobe lightly? You literally said "Found one" directed at me when I made fun of your edgelord nonsense for saying that the only people that watch Bill Maher are transphobes. Instead of "not [taking] everything you read on here so seriously", you instead in effect accused me of being one of said transphobes.
Need an instant replay?

I'll apologize for the second one. That's fair. I could have handled that better.
I legitimately was taking the piss on the first one. It was 100% directed at the fact that Maher has been repeating transphobic talking points for several months now.
The whole purpose of the show Real Time with Bill Maher is suppose to be about adults having adult conversations without everybody freaking out. It's meant to be discussions but also entertainment. People can discuss these things in an open forum without fear of harassment, repercussions, getting canceled and everything else. It's suppose to be for adults with differing opinions and everybody should just be ok with what.
People who get really offended easily really should not be tuning in cause then everybody is getting worked up. Best to just stay off cause sooner or later it's going to happen.
Whatever else you might say about Maher's show it automatically became essential to history when he had that segment of Hitchens talking to Mos Def and referring to him as "Mr. Definitely".
Anyway speaking of late night comedians with talk shows, Jon is... basically exactly the same as he used to be. It's like he never left. This feels exactly like something out of 2006.

Jon Stewart is the best. I saw him in NYC once during a stag, he was walking down the street; we were taking a taxi. He had just come out of a Subway (you know, eat fresh! Not the actual subway system, which isn't fresh). We saw him so I rolled down the window and was like "JON!" He looked over and I shouted "SUBWAY! YEAHHHHHH!" And he responded with a fist pump and yelled back "YEAH MAN! SUBWAY!" And that was that. This has nothing to do with anything in this thread, really, other than I think Jon Stewart is awesome (the Daily Show is the best with him on it), and I can tell my grandkids one day we randomly bro'd out for three seconds over a sandwich.

People denying the existence of trans people are not just having "adult conversations."
I'm not calling for his cancellation, but let's at least call a spade a spade.
The 2024 edition of the Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey has Biden in 14th place, just ahead of Woodrow Wilson and Ronald Reagan. Trump comes in 45th, behind fellow impeachee Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan, the perennial cellar-dweller in such ratings due to his pre-Civil War leadership.
Generally anyone saying "they're equally crappy" would be in disagreement with the American Political Science Association who study presidential history.
Experts responding to the survey who self-identified as conservatives rated Biden No. 30, while liberals put him 13th and moderates ranked him 20th. All three of those same groups ranked Trump, whose presidency was marked by his flouting of historical norms, in the bottom five.
On the survey's 0-100 scale of "overall greatness," a rating of 50 means a president was average, while zero means a president is considered a failure. Only the top three presidents — Abraham Lincoln at No. 1, followed by Franklin D. Roosevelt and then George Washington — scored above 90. The drop-off was sharp from there, with no one else above an 80 rating. Roughly half the presidents were rated below 50.
Trump's overall rating was 10.92, easily the worst showing, while Biden's 62.66 had him tied with John Adams. Some of Biden's appeal could be due to the person he followed in the Oval Office: Trump was seen as "by far the most polarizing of the ranked presidents, selected by 170 respondents," according to a summary of the survey.

I haven't watched his show in ages, but probably would if I knew one of the guests and wanted to hear them speak. Isn't it better, though, that if someone has those views, to put them in a room with other people of differing viewpoints, and talk about it. Or push them into their own groups to be calcified.

There's a fine line for regressive thoughts in a rational discussion as society moves culturally changes over time and moves forward, and the nutbar yelling hate material on his soapbox. Unfortunately social media and the culture wars being fought means validating every nutbar as an equal in the vein of freedom of speech. The same can be said for nutbars on the left, although regressive policies are more associated with the right.
Question: if you share my opinion, did we just forget how good he was, or is he now better?
Another question and I hope it's not a dumb one. Is there a way to adjust your settings so you're alerted if someone quotes you?
I looked but I can't find anything about that. The thing is though that I have considerable dyslexia and I have difficulty searching for written specifics, finding specific items on the grocery shelf, I get my words out of order when I type, stuff like that, so that may be in play here.
No one proofreads their posts more than I do, and then inevitably makes edits after they're posted.

I actually enjoy Bill Maher and Rogan, sometimes they’re over the top but they do tend to provide points of view that I sometimes agree with.
Where did you see him deny the existence of trans people though? I have watched his show a decent amount and would be pretty surprised / disappointed if that was his actual position, and you’re right that would be gross. To me he always seems more like a very arm wavey over-generalizer of peoples positions in culture wars (like you’re doing now) but generally I’ve always thought his heart was in the right place on all the various topics (like you, too).
You have a link or video you can remember where he said that? I googled it but couldn’t find it.

He's not a denier or phobic or anything but the criticism is that he questions the extent to which gender dysphoria exists in society. He suggests that to some degree the current movement is potentially overblown due to younger people claiming dysphoria for reasons such as it being trendy or popular, on Tik Tok, etc. He doesn't claim that there is not legitimate gender dysphoria cases and supports transition but he gets labeled as against the community because he questions some instances of it.
