I doubt the value of Marky with no retention is Mercer and a first.
I actually doubt its Mercer alone.
If Conroy could get Mercer, a first and Vanacek for a retained Marky he would have already jumped on it.

IMO mercer puts them in better goalie territory though.
I guess that's a matter of opinion, but we'd be relying hard on the devils desire to specifically land Markstrom in this case.
Also, if we're not keen on Holtz perhaps we can exchange him directly for a centre prospect. He still has great value as an individual piece. Maybe we want to keep him and trade Kuz as a result? We have a lot of time to play with individual pieces.

Interesting proposal being discussed on HF.
Rasmus for Cozens.
As much as I love Ras I would love this deal for the flames. Maybe it allows the team to stress a little less on getting Mercer, or if they can, Cozens Mercer is a great 1-2 center punch

To me, this is the trade that makes sense for both teams, and is both balanced and reasonable for both sides.
Markstrom + Rooney for Mercer + 1st
Retention + taking Vanacek for Casey
We get a 1st, a C and a D prospect. They get a retained Markstrom, plus a 4th line C. The trade just makes sense for both teams, as Mercer and Casey are both expendable for Jersey, because of their depth at those positions.
My concern is that the infatuation period is over, and the window has now closed to get this done. Just my gut feel.

I can’t imagine we’d trade 3 of our top 4 D.

Take this for what it's worth (my Sharks source here in SJ, a member within the organization) but multiple teams (Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary among others) have checked in on Mario Ferraro.

I am probably a bigger Andersson fan than most, but I would do this, simply because we are so thin at C. The only way it makes sense though, is to then sign Hanifin (which may already be out the window).
If you move Hanifin and Andersson (and Tanev), you've got Weegar and a whole lot of nothing. I don't like stripping the defense down that much - you're looking at years to build the D back up.

He is on pace for 18 goals. In a re-draft of that draft it is doubtful that he goes in the top 20 picks. He basically is a late round pick at this point in his career.

We have years...
#1C is the biggest hole you can fill. Cozens has that upside still.
Personally I don't think Buffalo even considers this for a moment. Cozens is only 23 and put up 30 goals last year.
Hell, I would add to Andersson to make this happen.
I agree that you would try to resign Hanifin if you could make this trade, but this is the type of swing we should be making.

What need would he have? I don't know a lot about him but nothing screams must get from his states and history.

What?
Name the 20 players from 2020 NHL draft you'd take ahead of him?
He's producing almost the same as Zary in way less ice-time. Same draft. do you think Zary is worth more or less than a late round pick?

Does anyone watch enough sharks hockey to have a read on him? Pretty underwhelming stats on the surface, but he does block a lot of shots. Maybe a Tanev replacement/alternative?

Andersson for Cozens would, IMO, be a bigger coup than Markstrom for Mercer. Huge for the franchise. Probably why I see it as impossible lol.

Mario Ferraro???
I don't get it. Don't understand why teams should have real interest in him. His upside appears to be very limited to me.

Mario Ferraro is the kind of defenseman you pair with an offensive defenseman to cover up mistakes. Partner for porier?

When I evaluated the Toffoli/Sharangovich trade, the first question I asked was if this trade was made 1 year earlier, what would the trade look like? More than likely Toffoli + for Sharangovich.
If we can trade Markstrom and get Vanacek, Mercer and a 1st because Vanacek is just a cap dump, Conroy is the best GM in the league. Vanacek 1 year ago in a trade for Makrstrom would have been Markstrom + for Vanacek. Mercer would have been untouchable too. I still find it amazing how way too many overreact to 1 good year or 1 bad year.

Just to add to this, Mercer is currently 4th in points and third in goals for the entire draft class.
If a re-draft occured Mercer is likely going top ten.

Cozens was drafted in 2019.
Even there, the only one I think are definitely ahead are Hughes and Seider (Both taken ahead of hm anyway) Probably Caufield. Maybe Boldy. After that though, a whole lot of players you could slot above or below, depending on preference. Some due to injury (Byram) and some due to flaws (Zegras, Macelli, etc), some due to both (Dach). There are some you woudl probably take based on their play this year (Thomas Harley).
But there are a whole lot of players there who haven't broken through (Newhook, Turcotte, Podkolzin, Broberg, Kakko), and then a whole lot who are NHlers but not top line guys (Krebs, Hoglander, Protas, Kastelic)>
