Default Over rated/ Under rated things

Sort of based on the thread from the main board where over rated and under rated hockey players are discussed but much much broader.

Over rated things in life....A brand new house. I've had two of them and by the time I landscaped it, built a fence, built a deck, added blinds, did a few other miscellaneous things to bring it up to standard I sunk a lot of money into it. You also live in a construction neighbourhood often thats dusty, noisey, and your neighbours often don't finish their places for at least a couple years.

Under rated is drinking beer out of an authentic pewter beer stein. Beer goes in cold and stays cold for a long time. If you love cold beer, theres no better way to have a beer. Plus wielding a beerstein around is always a great time.

Over rated. Brand new vehicles. A person is better off buying one that is a few years old. A vehicle depreciates alot in it's first 2 years, so one is better off buying used and letting someone else pay for the depreciation.

Under rated. Small town golf courses. None of the hassles associated with city golf courses. Tee times are easy to get and the rounds are usually 4 hours or less. Worth the drive IMO.

Over-rated: Cell phones. I hate them.

Under-rated: High quality power tools. If you are a do-it-yourself nut like me, buy the good tools.

Over rated
  • Camping- Now I love nature, I love being outside fishing, biking, hiking, but most people my age view camping as sitting around a campfire smelling really bad and drinking your face off…sorry but I could do that in my back yard on a nice day and take showers when I want
  • most T.V. in general…I really only have one show that I like that isn’t sports related other than that its just stupid mindless reality T.V. filler junk that isn’t worth my time
  • Poker, I used to be a big poker guy played it a lot never for a lot of money but I had my fun…but when I looked at it logically its really one of the mindless thing out there and after watching friends who got addicted max out credit cards and constantly be in debt I just removed myself from it
  • Apples…well really most fruits in general…I would much rather eat a cucumber or a carrot
  • Justin Timberlake
  • All pops
  • Credit cards

Underrated
  • The radio…most sports talk it really interesting and while most people think that not being able to see is its down fall, I find it as its strength there is much more imagine nation involved when you just listen
  • Trampolines…they just kick ass
  • Thinking…I know this may sound odd but I really don’t think people just stop to appreciate and think about what’s going on in there life
  • Thi Thi subs man they are so good and cheap!
  • Rice…while it’s a regular meal item it is just so good, it goes well with anything its simple to make and tastes amazing
  • Sleeping…man I don’t do enough

Overrated: status symbols/expensive labels

I'm thinking BMW/Mercedes/etc, designer clothing,etc
I always find it amazing how companies can sell stuff that no one really needs.

Underrated: Basic car repair skills

Changing a flat tire, boosting a dead car, changing an air filter, etc. Maybe it helps that I drive an old car that needs a lot of TLC, but sometimes it amazes me how helpless some people get when the simplest thing goes wrong.

I'll take that another step further

Over rated Father in law who's a Doctor or Lawyer. Yeah you might inherit a boat load when he kicks the bucket. In the mean time you'll get dragged into an exorbitantly over priced wedding. You'll be judged forever, and you might get a round or two of golf at the stuffy country club with a bunch of other old men.

Under rated Father in law who's a finish carpenter/general contractor. Won't judge you, has lots of good skills he can teach you help you out with and when he retires has a lot of wicked tools that he'll let you have. Also can get you contractor pricing on a lot of great stuff.
