I get that Mangiapane's production hasn't been amazing but I don't get why he's become the fan base's whipping boy.
22 5v5 points still sits third on the team, underlying stats are still good, his contract isn't great value at $5.8M but it's still tradeable for sure with only a year left after this one.
His biggest fault seems to be he didn't become the top line forward that we all hoped he could become...but that doesn't mean he's useless. Still a guy who seems to be able to play a responsible 200ft game while generating solid offensive production at 5v5, even if his finishing and overall offensive game lack a bit of flair.

Not so much a whipping boy, but a valuable asset whose salary no longer fits the timeline at all. Calgary also has a big surplus of wingers, and not enough centers.

Oh I'm not saying they shouldn't trade him, he 100% should be on the trade block when the market is lacking forwards this year.
But venture into the game threads, or even this thread where people question if he would clear waivers, and you'll see he's become a bit of a whipping boy.

I don’t think he would get claimed just because of his salary.
You can probably trade him though.

He doesn't use his linemates. It's weird though because he was an underwhelming "one-man show" at both WJCs he was in, and the Bruins' AHL coach just called him out on it in December.
Super talented, but if he's not coachable at this point in his career and isn't fixing the one, easy issue holding him back, I'd be skeptical that he ever makes it as a full-time NHLer

Clearing waivers shouldn’t really be a measure of much. Not many teams could add $5.8 without sending anything back.
Would be clear waivers? Maybe. Is he a tradable asset? Definitely.

Is Mangi uselss? No, he's a pretty good middle 6 player whose likely paid a little to much. Good plaher with good hustle.
Mangi is, however, likely their most expendable forward with how many young wingers the team has that project to be middle 6. He also most effective on the Backlund line, where you can practically slap anyone and get production out of. At some point the team will want to bring in Coronato, also Pelltier will earn top 9 ice time when he stays healthy.
Ive been on this for a while but with the amount of D the Flames are about to ship out, flipping Mangi out for a D with comparable term and $$$ makes a lot of sense.
Not because Mangi is a bad player. Because Mangi is becoming redundant on this roster.

Mangi is paid about $1M too much right now, otherwise he's fine. Plus you still need NHL players on your team

Hard to predict, guys like him who are in the top 80 in even strength points in the league for forwards do not make the waiver wire often. The guys below him like Dylan Larkin, John Tavares and Kevin Fiala are probably not going to go on waivers either. So even for those forwards that have less even strength production than Mangiapane and make way more money it is difficult to determine if they would get claimed because they won’t be put on waivers.

Honestly if they need to spend 4 games scouting presumably fourth liners that might be coming back we have bigger issues. Either Nonis likes the food at TD Garden or he’s scouting Bruins opponents as well (Kings, Stars, etc).

Maybe he's scouting Markstrom's replacement!
I don't see any of: Debrusk(too many LWs, UFA), Frederic, Geekie, Grzelyck(UFA), or Forbort(UFA) as players that the Flames need to heavily scout.
Zacha could be a good add, but he has a 10 team no trade, and I doubt that the Bruins will trade him in the first place.
Poitras is another name, but he's injured, so you're not scouting him.

You okay with a conditional 2026 1st round pick? That's not ideal.
