Uh oh, now seeing online rumblings that this story could have been a CPC Party plant to highlight how the rent in a conservative province like Alberta is better. While failing to mention our rental rate increases are rising faster than anywhere else in the country.

I use to joke that I could buy a place in Mexico for $500K and use the leftover $1M to commute. Maybe that is a reality.
why wouldn't he just rent in Abbotsford? you can get a decent 2 bedroom for 1500, personally I never liked the valley commute but it's peanuts compared to a flight to Calgary

I think it all points to the absurdity of rent out here that a potential 6hr commute is worth it. $2500 is probably a dump or a shared one bedroom space.

Does it really though? It points to that if you have all of your living expenses covered, you can fly from YYC to YVR 8 times a month for school.

It would be like buying a Ferrari and sleeping in it and saying it’s cheaper than buying a house in Vancouver and then call news outlets to do a story about yourself.

But given that it looks like his last semester anyway.

Pretty silly conclusion.

A flight delay or cancellation on exam day would be fun.

I don’t know why this is even a story. Dude flies twice a week for classes. Of course his flights will be cheaper than renting his own place.

I hate to be most sarcastic bastard but...have we learned noting from COVID? Why does he have to go to Vancouver at all?

He can learn online. He knows it. We know it. The University of Phoenix knows it.

I mean, I read the story and it looks like it is a mandatory attendance, so I don’t begrudge his having to be there in person, but this isn’t like he’s flying out every weekday for classes - It’s twice a week!

It’s no different than if his parents lived in Vancouver and he only had 2 days a week of classes at U of C. It would of course be cheaper to do a round trip flight than rent his own place and deal with utilities, food, etc.

My guess is that the two courses are mandatory for his degree and must be attended in person. UBC offers lots of courses that can be taken remotely for credits. He probably left two mandatory courses until the very end or didn't plan out prerequisites. He then got stuck needed an an extra semester of school and decided to do the flying thing twice a week instead of paying to live outside of home.

And he’s living with his parents- guess who’s paying for the flights.

That logic doesn't really work.

If he doesn't take the flights, and others do the same, we are closer to the airline reducing flights.

If people like him do things like this, they will add/maintain flights.

Tons of our individual actions are insignificant in isolation, but you can't ignore the sum of them.

Depends. They are gong to have a minimum number of flights between Calgary and Vancouver. Probably one every 1-2 hours. There's a certain number of base flights that will occur no matter what. The airlines often sell off the excess seats at below cost to try and recover some of the excess capacity.

Things are getting heated in Richmond over a proposed safe supply site:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/globaln...-site-vch/amp/

The progressives telling Chinese Canadians to go back where they came from is an interesting turn

They are proposing a site at the hospital. The proposed site seems totally fine to me. Not like they are dumping a stand alone facility into a residential neighborhood.

I dunno, the guy yelling "finally they will die" and complaining about spending money on victims is a lot more gross to me. Is that a Canadian value?
