Why aren’t we concerned about OK being a UFA this summer?

Not relevant on the injury as long as they are comfortable he will be fully recovered. We aren’t winning anything this year anyway.

Picks will always be lottery protected to some degree.

But the pint of sending him to Boston is sign and trade to get more assets. So Bruins will ask us to take a more substantial contract back, no?
If he is just a rental, he’d surely go to any club that could showcase his talents on a long playoff run, no?

They can deal with the cap issue in the off season, they have a number of UFAs, RFAs etc which will change the make up of that team. The Geekie move makes them compliant for rest of season.
At this point, if Boston knows they are a single desired location it’s probably a package like Geekie, Lohrai, 2025 3rd.
The Bruins will pay rental price because they know they can sign him and don’t have to pay the premium for a signed Hanifin.

Geekie + lohrei + 1st for Hanifin would an okay return.
Not the most exciting but checks alot of boxes for us.

If it is clear Boston is the only destination, which seems reasonable based on the effort from Flames scouting, I think we better accept the Flames aren’t getting a 1st round pick.

Key point is to keep driving the price up. Getting Hanifin under contract for another year and having him for a playoff push has to have some value for Boston. But keep working the rental market to push the price up. We don’t care about whether he signs with the acquiring team or not, be ruthless and take best deal.

Once Boston trades for him they can immediately sign him to an 8 yr deal. There is no reason for a sign and trade for Boston.

Boston (or other teams) would want to try to see if the player has any interest re-signing before they finalize any trade
Trade return I would think is different, if its a pure rental or a signing

Agree with you, but I’m guessing Boston already has that answer. It’s been published enough they likely know they don’t need to pay above pure rental price.

We can still trade him as a pure rental @ 2.4 million.
Someone should offer us atleast 1st+ b prospect for that even as a rental.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Had to remind myself what Hanifin's NTC status was. 8 team list where he can't be traded to. I was worried he held all the cards and Boston would be it. Thankfully not the case and if it's a sign and trade that happens to be to Boston, well that would mean well above rental price.

Sorry, shouldn’t have used the word published. I do recall seeing someone post that Hanifin said something about playing in Boston. I know the league has tampering rules, but let’s not fool ourselves to think these discussions don’t happen with teams or between players on other teams.

Given the number of Cups the Bruins have won in the past decade and the age of some of their players they can afford to wait too and if they don’t win this year they will next year. Time to play hardball for them.

We literally just traded Lindholm as a pure rental and got more than that.

Vancouver really wanted lindholm and stepped up. Hanifin has a different appeal. And if he’s adamant about going to market or will only sign with Boston, that will impact the return we get. If teams were offering fair prices, deal would probably be done. Fully prepared for the Hanifin deal to be underwhelming given these circumstances, hope I’m wrong.

As a rental Flames can send him anywhere minus his 8 team no trade list.
I hope he fetches a similar return to Lindholm. That would be great.
