There’s been so much smoke with respect to this deal. From Sec 214, Friedman, Francis, Steinberg, Rasta (anlthough Rasta just said someone was gonna move), etc. I believe it’s going to happen.

I don't mind Francis, but I guess he's putting together the smoke signals and making those assumptions much like the rest of us are. It's not an insider statement but moreso a logical thought he's making given everything that's been around recently.

He’s not an insider in the general sense but I’ve always felt he is the mouthpiece for Murray. If he’s saying it will get done then I’ll be surprised if it isn’t

I bet most these guys hear smoke but just report on it as it's not their "job" comparative to their "insider" peers. ie: Salim probably has more contacts being around the team day to day, but probably has to leave the insider reporting to Dreger and stuff. So I'm not discounting Francis in any way. I actually like the guy because he tends to stir the pot more than others who tend to keep in line to be chummy with the organization and leadership.

I can't imagine that Francis doesn't have any connections to the team and/or agents. The guy's been in and around the game in media for so many years, I'd be shocked if he doesn't hear a ton of info from a large number of people when it comes to the Flames.

Do the accusations come about because he's a bit of a pot stirrer sometimes when interviewing players/management and some posters get upset with the way he does this, and thus try to take shots at his connections as an insider?

Personally, I like Francis and think he's really good at his job. Don't like some of the articles he's put out in the past but that was because I was such a big fan of Johnny, specifically, and wasn't happy to hear speculation about him and the city of Calgary. Francis is also a good human when you look into the kinds of things he does around the city, which tops ant disagreement I have with the click-generating content he sometimes puts out.
