Honest question, Will it? How do you know it will be significantly worse?
Unless we know what is on the table right now, if in fact there is a formal offer on the table at all, how would anyone know what some team might offer in the offseason?
Each and every team has their own circumstances and constraints to deal with along with ‘windows to win’. The league is far too fluid to make these sorts of proclamations.
What if Toronto gets bounced early? This offseason they trade Marner for a heavy futures package then use those assets to pursue a legitimate 1G? I’m sure there are other teams, like LA, who might think the same way.
Whether it’s hockey or almost any other transaction pulling the trigger or not needs to be considered against multiple factors. If I walked into a dealership today and the salesman man said, you should trade your car in today because it will never be worth more, I’m heading for the door.

I also want it to happen before the TDL. Teams often pay premiums at the TDL. Also, it feels like the Flames have a scarce asset, with only 1, maybe 2 elite goalies available (i.e. Markstrom and Saros) and many teams desperate to shore up their goaltending before the playoffs. I’m hoping they can turn this situation into a huge windfall for the future.

My guess yes it would be worse, within the league goalie's don't tend to be traded and land great returns.
Obviously, I have no idea the speculated offer etc.
If Toronto were to move Marner, Calgary would never be on the list of destinations. I would bet he would not waive his NMC for anything except a contender.

So if it turns out the Flames don’t get their price, or a ‘windfall’, but a decent offer otherwise, do you take it or wait till the offseason where there may be a larger market?

This isn’t a used car trade in. 3 potential playoff runs with a player is worth more than two. Flames paid more for Toffoli with term on his contract than if he was a UFA.
Especially given Markstrom’s age, I don’t imagine teams are placing value on the years once this contract expires and the ability they will have to re-sign him.
I guess we can debate everything but sure seems like Markstrom in particular is right at his peak value.

Agreed.
What’s most important is he’s dealt before next season, from a flames draft pick perspective. With how the Barn Burner guys broke down the pick conditions with Montreal and Florida, it’s pretty vital the flames are a bottom 10 team next year to not take a big hit in this rebuild.

It depends what you mean by decent offer, but I don’t think the situation will be better in the summer, for the two reasons I stated in my previous post and 3 playoff runs vs. 2, as Strange Brew said. There will be more buyers and more goalies available in the summer.

I also am very appreciative of the insider information, it’s more enjoyable to be teased by insider tidbits than the random speculation.
Today’s game will be a big indicator on Markstrom. If he doesn’t play he’s likely gone.

I would say in general it is true that veteran players are worth more at the deadline than they are at the draft.
No one ever gives up a first rounder for a Paul Gaustad at the draft.
So while it isn't true in every case, trading a vet at the deadline will more often give the best return.

Not to mention his roller-coaster performance over the past few years. This year he's on a heater - take advantage of it. Next year he could turn into a pumpkin again.

The crazy thing is that Nashville also got a 2013 4th in that deal which they used to pick Jussi Saros. The original Nashville pick that Buffalo got was traded to Calgary with a 2nd and yielded...Jankowski who has played some games with Nashville this year.
I think Buffalo ended up with Zigmis Gergensens...so even seemingly one sided deals...don't work out that way. Nashville likely anticipated a better 2013 draft and shallower 2012 and got value in the picks.

No, we'll end up drafting 4th overall and we'll get the devils pick at 9th overall!
