I hope Mercer doesn't turn into a Peyton Krebs similar to Buffalo being so adamant to have him in the deal.

Seems the majority is so high on him and truthfully I haven't seen much of him playing, the games I have seen he never did stand out even the slightest. He is young so I'll continue to be patient. I just hope he isn't all hype.

Dawson Mercer has already played and had good success in the NHL.

I mean sometimes things just take their sweet time. Paperwork isn't always as fast as people make it out to be. There's a lot of things to iron out. It doesn't help that the trade was leaked 2-3 days prior. There has been rampant media speculation as well. It's almost as if the two teams are negotiating in semi-public. The trade was NOT complete to my knowledge 2-3 days ago but is more likely than not getting completed now. Just because someone leaked it (I think Devils) doesn't mean that its taking "too long".

It's always dangerous to get too fixated on one player, I agree.

But he's already eclipsed 50 points in his young career. I think under the right guidance in our system he should be alright.

I've gotten the sense that Jersey isn't the best place for development, given how long their rebuild has dragged on with all the young talent at their disposal. Case and point: Yegor.

Feels like a system where players are prone to plateau-ing after good starts (both Mercer and Sharky dipped a bit in their third seasons there).

A change of scenery might jump start his offensive game again.

He's likely not going to be a superstar, but he's a good young player.

He played like 35 games in Junior after he got drafted and has been full time in the NHL ever since and is in his 3rd year. So he pretty much jumped straight from Junior to the NHL. He has played 217 games in the NHL.

Krebs is at 186 games despite being drafted a year earlier.

In my mind, there's no comparison.

Even if this turns out to be the case, we're not giving up an Eichel. Markstrom's been great and we know he is fairly consistent, but he's also not going to singlehandedly drag this team deep into the playoffs. To get someone like Mercer while also getting out of his contract, all while he gets a bit older every year, huge win IMO.

Yea if this trade goes down and ends up even being bigger with the addition of Hanifin… maybe also with an extension in place?? Could be a crazy return, don’t want to get too ahead of myself though… but if it does go down could you imagine Conroy pulling another one off and packaging Mangipane with Tanev?? Could see an unreal influx of prospects, picks and young roster players.
