LeBrun on insider trading says Devils are still trying to find a way to trade for Markstrom but in mean time have kicked tires on Saros, Gibson, and Allen.
Nashville asking for a good young NHL player for Saros and so far no one has offered anyone that would make the Preds blink.

Sounds like a Devils leak to push the narrative that "there are other options". Saros will be more expensive, and Gibson isn't that great. Allen is good but not sure Montreal will give him away.

Also should add on MAF. Committed to Wild but if they are out of the race by trade deadline would only consider going to Carolina, Toronto, or Colorado.

Tough part about Saros is he only has one more year after this and will require a Hellybuck deal to keep at least so they get 2 playoff runs at $5M then a huge raise when he is 30
Markstrom you get the extra year but he is already 34 so that is also tough to give up a ton of prime assets unless there is pretty significant retention. If Markstrom comes in under $4M (35-50% retained) then he has a ton of value with the extra year on his deal.

NJ also want to make a push for the playoffs this season, Saros hasn't been playing great IIRC.
Edit - 46th in the NHL save percentage and GAA.

Yeah I’d take Markstrom out of all of those guys. If my team gets shelled Markstrom is the goalie for you.

I wouldn't. I think the oldest goalie to win the Cup since Tim Thomas in 2011 was Holtby at age 30? And despite being an older goalie he was still younger than the competition in the SCF.
In a seven game series Markstrom isn't who I bet on.

Starting to think that the devils deal was not as close as I let my imagination think it was. I highly doubt it was only conny shopping him to other teams that made fitz lose his s**t. That might have been a bit of it but there must be more or the deal would be done .
