Probably too late for SJ to claim him and ensure they get at least 1 goal tonight.

He'll most-likely be a Group VI UFA again this year because he won't get to 80 total games (unless he's claimed by a team who goes on a long playoff run and he becomes a regular in their lineup). That won't be confirmed until the season's over though.

With the way the Flames are raiding the Wranglers these days he would be a good get.
But no way of knowing if you could get him down (he'd go on waivers again). Not sure he fits on the current roster with only goalies and defensemen expected to depart and Pelletier coming back.

They already have Coronato to bring back up.

i always thought washington was a poor fit for a rhs winger. Guess he overvalued Mitch Love.
To be honest I do feel he is an NHLer and needs the opportunity. It won't happen though. Sutter tanked his chances here, and then he signed with a team where there was no actual fit.

Or he is a guy who isn't skilled enough to overcome the enormous size disadvantage he has in the NHL

I can't see him pushing out anyone on the Flames and waiving again for the Wranglers would probably see him go back to the Caps.

If you claimed you'd have Phillips for 3 months. You're already tearing down.
Very low risk, what's there to lose? I'd give him a look, even if he's not in the line up every night. I feel like it's a small wrong (by tre/sutter) that they could right by giving him one last kick of the can at the NHL under Huska's guidance.

If he passes through waivers (I think he will), would the Flames need him to clear again if they pick him up later?

Conroy offered him a contract, and Philips said he wanted to go elsewhere. Unless Philips has changed his mind, i doubt they force him to come back

If he clears waivers and is later traded, he can be sent to the AHL by his new team so long as he hasn't spent 30 days on an NHL roster since he last cleared.

I'm pretty sure he clears, unless ARI decides to add to their (ex)Flames waiver pick-ups.
