Find a way to make it a slip lane into a free flowing lane westbound. Booya.

Very much so. The bar is set currently at "parking lot and wall" where the lot interacts with the street. The whole thing.
Get some street-level retail and restaurants in there, and add in a bunch of new residents. I don't think that 16 stories is horrifying in any way, and it will be a net positive regardless of height.
Of course, there is a whole lot of shady going on with the owners, the development process, the fire, etc. but the development itself? Anything is an improvement.

When they line the retail around this new flagship building / plaza with only the who's who of fast food (McDonald's, Taco Bell, KFC, Subway, Edo, A+W, Opa, and throw Chipotle in there for good measure), complete with 80's McDonald's tables bolted into the plaza, THEN you'll see the community uprise and forget all about the building's 'height'.

Nothing screams authentic NYC like corporate tomato bread in eclectic, inner-city Calgary, Alberta!

Just like how 16 storeys in the heart of Bridgeland has destroyed it!

In what sense? That it has two major roads going through it that substantially take away from a nice street level experience? That's my jam.

I'm not sure it's ever really been designed, it just kinda happened.

Unpopular opinion: Turn Kensington Road and 10th street into a no-cars zone. Pedestrians, bikes, micro transit only. Lots of trees, benches, and the ability to have farmers markets and festivals in the middle.
Heck, you find yourself jaywalking in Kensington more than most parts of the city anyway.
When I lived in Calgary, I never said to myself the cars made Kensington a better place.
Not enough political will to get that one done, though.

It’s unpleasant whether you’re a pedestrian or a vehicle.
Here’s how I would do it, since all my fans are obviously wondering:
- Throw a massive parkade in there somewhere. Think 5+ levels (actually maybe one around 12th and one around 5th… and maybe one in the middle).
- Close Kensington Cres to vehicle traffic.
- Remove street parking from Kensington Road between 14th and 10th and on 10th between Memorial and 5th (plus remove it from all the little side streets like 11A that don’t connect to anything)
- Add bike lanes and/or more extended patios to Kensington Road and 10th.
Fixed it.

I would just do no cars on 10th south of 5th ave, and no cars on Kensington Road east of 14th.
Go big or go home. Do it right. Make it the pedestrian, walkable panacea that Calgary dreams of but can never accomplish.
