Started watching The Newsroom on HBO last night. Boy, that show hooks you quickly.
Probably the series with the starkest contrasts in quality between the pilot episode and everything that followed. If you stick with the series but start to lose interest, don't try to tough it out hoping it will get better. It won't

Interesting. It seems to rate quite hight through multiple episodes on imdb? Also the couple recommendations I got to watch it spoke quite highly about it. I guess we'll see! I'm 3 episodes in and enjoying it so far. But yeah, the pilot was amazing.
Enjoying For all Mankind on Apple. Have liked a lot of their original shows mentioned earlier in the thread, in particular Slow Horses and Severance, the quality of the programming reminds me of when Netflix first started making content and were taking more of an HBO approach and trying to make smart high end programming before they went with the broader appeal. Really polished, well written period drama about an alternate history space race.

I give up on a lot of shows, typically with no regret, but For All Mankind is definitely one I want to resume. Watched the first few episodes, but not sure why I discontinued. It was solid.

I tell people that 'For All Mankind's' quality trajectory is insane.
The first season is a little slow, but from there it just goes up and up and up.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I'm not really an Avgeek but I am a WW2 enthusiast.
I think its good so far...I actually think they should be concentrating more on the planes, as the planes seem to really be the stars of the show.
I'm not even going to debate you about comparing it Band of Brothers. Thats just hopeless.
I like The Pacific. I LOVE Chernobyl. Band of Brothers is still the best.
Its going to take something amaze-balls to top Band of Brothers. I hope the day comes because whatever that might be will be amazing, but it hasnt happened yet.
The thing with this show is that they're not endearing us to the characters. They all look mostly the same and are either barely fleshed out or just unlikeable.
I came here to post this... so thanks for saving me the trouble.
It's like the showrunners couldn't overcome the problem of all the main characters being masked for virtually all of the action sequences. So they decided to spend a ton of time outside the airplanes doing... stuff.
I'm a huge vintage aviation guy, and massive WW2 honk, and instead of interesting stuff like that they focus on bike races in the mess hall, and the nearest skirt, and the cute kid with the robot arm.
Like they fly to Africa. Land in the desert. I'm thinking "hmmm... I wonder how they are getting home? Planes all shot up and occupied Europe between them and England".
Next episode - back at their base, a few weeks later. Talking to girls, travelling around, discussing promotions. Not a word about it. Barely an inconvenience!
This show should have been a 10/10 for me. I grant that it's not over yet, but I'm super disappointed so far.
(That said - the guys with the resistance storyline are the most compelling IMO - great stuff there, real tension.)
This is a really old one! But I stumbled across an episode of Super Dave a while ago while flipping through the channels and it actually still holds up really well. I love the straight/dry/deadpan style of comedy and it’s great watching the musical acts from that time perform as well. Definitely worth a watch if your an old fan or just love that style of comedy.

Season 2 of Halo has been exceptional thus far. But it really...I find it odd.
Put it this way...I never played the game, as I'm not a 'Gamer.'
So there might be elements that I'm missing?
The acting is first rate. Everyone does a great job.
The cinematography, sound and music...it clearly has a budget because its beautiful.
The special effects are excellent.
But I'm pretty sure I still have no idea whats going on. Theres a war and such. I dont know why. Some key thing which I think is important? But only to a couple of inexplicable blond ladies? They stole the soldier guy's imaginary friend lady which I dont understand why that matters so much.
I'm still really liking it, but this is one of those shows that I shouldnt be watching. I should just wait until its over and then watch it and see if I can figure it out.
One of my favourite actors in the world is Liev Schreiber. The guy is amazing. He's also not in this. His little brother Pablo though, while not having that iconic voice, is also a very good actor.
Is he genuinely that huge? In this show the guy's a giant.
