Sure, but the top players are always going to be a little interchangeable depending on how they develop from kids into adults, and ranking guys is merely an exercise to get a sense of where there might be tiers of talent. Top 15 or so is top tier. Where they end up is always a guessing game.
I take your point not to get too hung up on lists, but ranking the quality of an organization's prospect pool does give people a sense of what to expect down the road. A "sense" is all they should expect. Anything dealing in terms of absolutes is ridiculous.

I'm not interested in convincing anyone.
Given that the odds were very low that a Flame fan had any understanding of who HB was prior to the trade you can accept an opinion from a fan who has been following him since he was drafted for what its worth, or you can throw it in the garbage because it isn't as glowing as you would like.

So not sure why you are suggesting that I now think he is now a bad player?
Or why you would write Mynio off because he is a 3rd round pick when both HB and Mynio were third round picks, one the 75th overall and the other 89th overall?
My post was in response to discussion of the Nucks rankings and if the loss of HB impacted their ranking and if the addition of HB will raise the Flames ranking.
Given that the Flames prospect pool is rated higher by Wheeler, and Mynio was ranked 10th on the Nucks list I am interested in where he comes in on the Flames list.
If you think that is an attack on the player, I'd suggest you take your own advice and get off it.
As for why HB wasn't/didn't sign in Vancouver, haven't a clue ... some chatter that he didn't want to sign because of where he saw himself on the depth chart.
|
I think it was in part the implication that you were interested to see where HB was on the Flames list because Mynio was 10th in Vancouver and Mynio was thought by many to have surpassed HB (hence a bit of an assumption that you were implying HB wouldn't make the Canucks list if still there)
the breadcrumb seems to be (I don't subscribe to the Athletic and maybe I've lost the plot) that HB was scored as a B+ by Wheeler by implication slotting him 4th on the Canucks list . if you weren't meaning to imply he wouldn't be in the top 10 then probably all is good
anyways back to 2 Canucks fans taking swings at each other

Not sure why he wasn't signed, the only rumor I had heard was that he might not have been interested in signing in Vancouver.
He'd be behind Hughes and Willander as puck movers and his defensive game needs lots of work as does his skating.
But his offensive skills are very good and as I think that he's the type of prospect who fits very well into the Flames prospect system.

Following him for the...... 7 months? since he's been drafted
Allow me to eat crow. Your understanding of the player and how he projects must be on a much higher and more advanced level with the 1/2 season of intensive observation you've accumulated.

Ok, I'll bite.
Give us your assessment of the player and what his path to the NHL is?
Irony is that Zayne Parekh may fall to the Flames in this years draft, a 17 year old dman who has 25 goals this season and who has surpassed HB on the points leader board having put up 8 points since the trade to HB's 2 points.

It’s stuff like that last paragraph that exposes your bias
Really working hard to find all ways to underrate the prospect they got
To the point that fellow Canuck fans are even calling you out on it

Not sure how anyone can't think HB is an exciting prospect, even allowing for team bias. No guarantees of course but he's obviously got a hell of a skill set. Could become anything, but that's the exciting part. Adam Fox? Shayne Ghostisbehere? Sean Durzi? Marc-Andre Bergeron? Andy Delmore? Tj Brennan? Mike Kostka?

What were your thoughts on Brzustewich before the trade? Was he exciting and worthy of attention prior to the trade? If he wasn't exciting before the trade why would he be now, other than team associated bias? Just a reminder that no one was talking about him on this board prior to him being traded to the Flames. He's soared from a nobody that wasn't even in discussions when Vancouver was brought up as a trade partner to being a top prospect. Is that excitement based on his potential as a player, or just because he is now a Flames prospect?

People were talking about him in the trade thread before it became known what Calgary was getting back.
Many thinking he would be a great prospect to land to add to the first.
A quick internet search of Canuck's prospects had him in 3rd in one of the links.
People weren't as blind as you are suggesting.
I know I opened this article before the trade was announced and was thinking HB would be a good get. https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/vancou...y-2024-edition

AaronGavey and JiriHrdina were the only one to mention Brzustewicz in the trade thread and only in passing. No focus, no detail, just a mention in passing as possible player. Two posts in a thread of thousands prior to the trade. I wouldn't suggest there was a real buzz going on about Brzustewicz, he was more an after thought if thought of at all. Outside of Aarongavey (trade thread), JiriHrdina (trade thread), Sandman (draft), Royal9 (draft), RingofFire (draft), Sureloss (draft) and myself (prospect rankings), Brzustewicz was not mentioned by anyone prior to the trade going down, in any thread. So in context, Aarongavey and JiriHrdina earn kudos for being the only people to have mentioned Brzustewicz as a possible pickup. Jiri even framed it as "So Kuzmenko+1st+lesser prospect. It's slim pickings".

Comes down to expectations I guess.
Vancouver and Calgary close. I look up their prospects. Top link is the Hockey News article.
Was guessing their top two guys (who I'd heard of) would be unlikely, so I personally landed on HB as best case (who I'd also heard of).
Was glad others mentioned it too.
Was glad it happened.
I didn't have a horse in the race though; suggesting Calgary would get a huge return or Calgary would get less than everyone was suggesting. I basically never partake in that kind of thing.

Draft Pick

FWIW, Wheeler replied to a couple of questions raised in the comments and said that HB would have been “fourth, maybe fifth” on the Canuck list if he were still there, and that the trade dropped the Canucks down one spot. Again, FWIW.

Which seems reasonable. A good prospect but not an elite can't miss prospect. In general he is an intriguing player who could make the Flames a better team in a few years time. Which makes sense because he was traded in a package for a desirable asset. You can't give a pile of garbage and expect to get a diamond in return.
It is funny to see some Flames fans bend over backwards to say how awful Lindholm is and then some Canucks fans arguing that the prospects they gave up were awful.

Funny but I haven't seen a Canuck fan saying that HB was awful?
Seems like hyperbole which is something I accused Blaster of when he suggested that HB's upside is Cale Makar.
Asking Flame fans and Blaster to temper their expectations is not saying that the prospect is awful.
And I think we can agree that the Nucks were likely not to qualify Jurmo so it will be interesting to see what the Flames do with him.

Rushing over to the site of another fan base, that you rarely visit, to make sure you temper expectations is an odd way to spend your time.
And again your last sentence is another sign of you working so very hard to make this deal seem less good for the Flames.
You do you, but your agenda here is pretty obvious.

Have seen 3rd, 4th, and 5th for Brzustewicz on Nuck lists. I looked.at.where I think he fits on the Flames, and I slotted him in at 8th. But I don't think Zary counts, so 7th then.
