Disagree. You can rest him for as long as it takes. Message to the rest of the team? That you’re resting him so he doesn’t get injured so you can flip for futures so we can be a better team in future. They’ll get it, they’re pros.

Has a team ever rested a player for a month ahead of the deadline
As a team acquiring him I would worry about his game slipping

Didn't we see last deadline a bunch of players being rested early before being traded?

What message does it send to the fans? You can’t rest him for a month, agreed, but you can’t risk injury, the odds of which is increasing.
I fail to understand how taking a second is disrespectful to Tanev. Rather, you are giving him a chance to chase a cup, which is admirable. He’s likely gone, make the best deal you can and then turn your attention to dealing with Hanifin. And the team has been playing well, but the playoff odds are not in our favour. Again, we should be tanking after trading lindholm. But we went on a run. Who’s to say we won’t after tanev is gone. Unlikely but no one can say with definitive certainty that we will tank after we trade tanev (if he’s not injured before we deal him).
Asset protection is paramount especially after the reign of error by the wizard.

I’m not sure, does it matter? It’s the right thing to do.

It's a Flames - Blues - Stars three way deal. Flames wind up with Jake Neighbors and Wyatt Johnson and a St. Louis cap dump. Tanev and Hanifin to Dallas and Markstrom to St. Louis. Retains on Tanev and Hanifin on their way to Dallas and some picks for it.
It's really clear as day once you see it.

Getting a second isn’t disrespectful
Not letting him play is

The only time Sec214 upset me was using the stupid pizza gif for Dube. Everything else is good fun.

Don't get me wrong, my butthole puckers everytime Tanev gets touched, but yeah, they aren't going to sit him for any length of time without injury.....

Chychrun was held out for a long time.
Wasn’t Gavrikov too?
Edit: Looks like Gavrikov was only a couple weeks. Felt like longer.

I wonder if the Flames are going to make any attempts to extend Kylington before Tanev and Hanifin are traded. Kylington will have a lot more leverage if those to are gone. But with that said, we're still early in Kylington's return, so it's not much of a sample size to work off of.
The same goes for Gilbert. Perhaps he should get a deal sooner rather than later.

I don’t think there’s any leverage to be had there. The Flames paid him and supported him otherwise while he took a year and a half off from hockey. He’s not going to play games just because the Flames need to sign defencemen for next year.
