I only watched first couple minutes. I don't see what's wrong with Bieksa's original comments.
'You want Reilly to go over there.
You want him to do something.
You don't want him to do that'.
Not singling you out, but the correct answer today is we don't want Reilly to go over there at all?
Anyway, has to be minimum 5 games

Unsurprisingly, meathead Keefe thought Reilly’s response was ‘appropriate’. Imagine how different his response would be if a Senator did that to one of his precious leafs. Would he say ‘it was appropriate, we put a hard slapshot into an empty net.’ ? Both actions lacked class, but Reilly’s reaction was over the top and should be suspended.

Not sure why a slap shot into an empty net is such a big deal.
Isn’t a goalie trying to score into an empty net up 2 just the same?
Or a player after scoring a goal doing the fleury celebration?
Times have changed, excessive celebrations are what the young players/fans want to see in all sports.
But shots to the head are never allowed, especially to a defenceless player after a play is completed.
It should be 10+. I expect at least 5.

It's showing off, plain and simple, just to make Reilly look bad. Reilly knows they effed up and the coach was going to make a point of it, and Greig decided to make a spectacle of it in front of 20,000 people.

If roles were reversed and Chabot did that to Matthews after an empty net goal the media would be calling for a 10 game suspension.
Since it's the Leafs the media and all the Leafs fans act like it's some "code" that makes it allowed.

Sounds very similar to the media reaction to Kassian and keeping the code…

Goalies shooting at an empty net is part of clearing the zone and it's actually risky.
I'm shocked people think what Grieg did was normal and innocent.

I'm never ever going to be a guy that wants hockey to take fighting or big open ice hits out the game. Both sometimes come at once. That I feel is completely okay. Had Reilly rubbed him ot and chaos inside. Then fine , let's go it's Saturday night

Barry Gibbs would feed Elton his own teeth if he tried the same #### as Greig.

If it was McDavid taking the cheapshot people would be calling for a suspension for the rest of the season.

The bat flip was outstanding. (As was the slapper)
And had the Rangers buzzed him next at bat I would say that's fair game. Which is not at all the same as beaning him in the head.

This one is going to be interesting because Rielly is an important player for the Leafs. It should be 5 games but this is a league with a tiered justice system so I wouldn't be shocked if he gets 2 games or a fine.

I think anyone looking for comparables from 20-30 years ago are completely missing the point.
The league has changed.
The world has changed.
This doesn't fly.
We saw it with the Andersson hit this year. Too late, and on the wrong side of the score.

Frankly I think it would have made Grieg look stupid if the Leafs just ignored it.

I’m shocked some “hockey people” are so delicate that a goal in an empty net scored with a slap shot sets them off.
But this is a league where laying a big clean hit means your have to fight.
#### hockey is dumb sometimes

Calling Rids classless is foolish. Try to imagine being a rookie player out there defending a 1 goal lead in the last minute. The pressure of that and then the opening of a empty net break away to seal it, home crowd going crazy all the way down, putting away a provincial rival. He ripped that puck on adrenaline. Was 100x better than pulling a Patrick Stefan!
If Zary had done that here at the Dome vs the Oilers we would all be loving it.

It would've made the Leafs looks like chumps for not responding at all.
He clearly was enticing a reaction with doing an unnecessary slap shot there. It clearly was taunting, and wanting to get a reaction from the Leafs; mission accomplished.
Rielly should probably get a couple games since using a stick there was over the top, but Grieg definitely instigated a reaction by making a slap shot a foot away from the empty net.
Shouldn't be surprised by the reaction considering every single whistle, there some form of physical altercation between the players when completely normal actions occur. It's an emotional game where players behave a bit unhinged, so can't be shocked when a player gets upset with what Grieg did there. He shouldn't known what was coming.

Comparing this to the Hunter/Turgeon incident is an enormous stretch, and comical. I'm actually surprised this ridiculous thread title remains.
Turgeon didn't do what Greig did, and he certainly didn't see anything coming.
"He should've expected a crosscheck in the face?".. Yes!
Play stupid games get stupid prizes, Greig and Reilly eventually will both get their prizes.

If Rielly confronts him and mans up, then there is no issue. fight him if you are so offended but to cross check him in the head and then get of the ice right away. very leaf like
