If you're going to showboat you're going to get a response.
Response was a bit over the top, no need for the stick to be involved.
Otherwise I love the entire sequence.
This is what rivalries are made of.

I understand why the leafs would be frustrated, and its intended to get a reaction...and by all means challenge him to a fight if your feelings are hurt that bad.
But how the same dudes whining about the code feel that crosschecking someone in the head instead of squaring up is dealing out justice to a hot dog is some twisted ####
Like to see him get at least 5. Tough guys with their sticks are pathetic

It's all about intent. Why is Grieg taking a slapper at an empty net and why does Rielly care about it?
Like Andersson. Why is Laine making an effort (like speeding up) to shoot at an empty net with 3 seconds left? And why does Andersson care enough to violently go after Laine's knees to prevent it?

What Grieg did was the equivalent of dunking up 10 when the defense has given up.

Isn't the intent in hockey to score goals? Ovechkin passed Gretzky for the most empty net goals ever tonight. Should he be ashamed?
I think Anderson went high on Laine, not at his knees though.

I don’t think a cross check to the face was suitable but some sort of response, yes.
But if Riellys cross check is a couple inches lower all is well in the hockey world.

but it wasn't lol...if the bullet was 2 inches higher I wouldn't have murdered that guy
Zadorov just got suspended for hitting a guy in the head, had he not hit him in the head...wait for it
he would not have been suspended

Exactly. Too bad these players aren't as tough emotionally as they are physically.

Ok. And Rielly is gonna get suspended. I’m not arguing that lol.
Sens player had a response coming, but yes the cross check was over the line.

So, Sens get the goal and the win
Rielly gets suspended
totally worth it?

No.
I can’t actually imagine a scenario where I would care about how hard someone shot an empty net goal in. Like, at all. It didn’t even occur to me that it was something anyone would care about until people started painting Greig as someone who had something coming to him. I honestly just thought Reilly was being an idiot baby, I didn’t know there were fans that were the same way.

I wouldn't want a Flames player to shoot it like that because you might F it up. Remember that Preds player that tried to roof an EN and missed the net? Then you have Patrik Stefan so tried to ease it into the EN and had a commentator saying he should be ashamed of himself on national TV.
So not too hard, not too soft, not too high, anything else?

Why do you keep quoting me? Lol. I’m not gonna argue with you.
All I said was this board would roast the flames if an oiler player scored an empty netter like that on us if the flames didn’t respond.
So yes I’d hope the flames would respond to an empty net goal like that. But again like I said maybe crosscheck a few inches lower, not in the chops.

Good point.
From my point of view, the worst Grieg had coming to him was a good loud yap and maybe a face-wash. Better still, take his number and crunch him into the boards next time you meet.

"had a response coming" just seems irrelevant in this case since the response was so far over the line
I quoted you to discuss the point you made, that is how a message board works

Who the #### cares how he scored? Honestly?
"They don't ask how they ask how many"
####ing ridiculous how Reilly acted.
Edit:
I'll add that I think this board is starting to show its age. It's 2024 . That's not cool . This kind of attitude that leads to multiple Canadian junior teams suspected of rape. You ask how are they can be connected it's the warrior mentality. Rape, pelidge and plunder. This is part of the conversation of why they say hockey culture needs to change. Had he just tried to get him to fight/ successfully fight. I wouldn't mind that. 2 guys going at it willing . Keep the refs out of the ####ing way and let the hay makers fly. Suckered punch, slew foot , stick play that can #### off.
Yes , excessive but you don't hit with the stick after the goal. No slew foot and nothing dirty .
Nothing dirty is okay any more. I'm still a big fan of big hits and fighting . This wasn't even a hit. Reilly could have rubbed him out after and tried to goad him into a fight. He won't fight you het him next season and target him with big hits/ fight.
