You’re both saying that Flames have not asked Marky to go to NJD.
Why you hef to be mad?

Think about it, Markstrom just had a conversation with Francis FFS, you don't think he's had a conversation with Conroy? Because it would be part of Conroy's job to have conversations with him.

Where are these sources? The two main sources I am going by is Craig Conroy and Markstrom. So what sources do you have that know more than those two? Like come on

I'm sorry, did Conroy tell you that he hasn't had any discussions with Markstrom?
How.can you not see the difference between non-specific vs specific?
Also, it isn't a competition, so relax. And try to use some reasonable judgment

Funny how people are talking about NJ being a buyer when they're 5 points out of the playoffs & we are 1.

Conroy told Pat Steinberg and the Barn Burner guys he hasn't had any discussions with Markstrom if I remember correctly. Markstrom just said like two days ago they have not discussed it, why would he lie about that? What purpose would that serve? I know it isn't a competition but I think I am using reasonable judgement when one of the party members being discussed has said they haven't discussed a trade, I think he would know better than some third rate rumour site.

Funny but not ridiculous. I think the Devils see themselves as a fundamentally good team that's been held back by bad goaltending. That's something that a single trade can potentially fix.

Is that not what Flames fans were saying last year, save the demand for a goaltender trade.

Pretty certain that nobody on this board has had any substantive discussions with any of the decision makers or the players.
Bottom line…..Have fun and enjoy the prognostications.
We will know soon enough.

You kinda have to tell yourself that when you have had two first overall picks, a second overall, a 4th overall, a 6th overall and a 7th overall in the past
9 years and you still are 5 points out of a playoff spot. Either that or keep rebuilding.

Yeah I agree.
But still funny from a circumstances be what they are standpoint.
I'd be in the camp that thinks they're a goalie & healthy Jack Hughes away from being a solid team.

Dallas could use a Tanev as well, intriguing prospects outside of their big ones.

I have 0 inside information but my understanding is that Hanifin wants to go to Boston and only Boston.
So he might just stay here? I really dont know. I'm fine with trading him though.

You could draw a parallel between the Devils and the mid 90's Quebec Nordiques. The Nords were emerging with a lot of talent after a lot of high draftbpicks and the haul from the Lindros trade, but after losing Hextal struggled in net. When Roy became available they made the move and became an elite team. So in similar fashion, the Devils might need to go to the trade market to get the guy who can get them to that next level and consistently beca top team winning two or more playoff rounds every year.

I’m worried because Markstrom has wavered between cold year and hot year since his arrival.
This has turned into a hot year, and I predict next year he could very well become a pumpkin again, before I suspect a red hot contract year in 25/26.
Would love to sell now, when his value appears sky high.
For the Devils, it was clear as crystal on Thursday night that Markstrom is an upgrade for them in net. I guess they’re banking on this year being a sophomore slump, and with their injury list you can’t blame them.
Still a chance to add a stud goalie for a playoff run, with a Carter Hartless Philly well within their reach, seems like wasted oppprtunity not to make a move. Plus he’s under control for the next two years, which you expect to be their prime window based on their young affordable core.
C’mon Jersey! There’s no guarantees this year is a blip. Make the move to better your team and send all your futures to us!

Again, it was a desperate hope that Francis had that he would break the story about Markstrom wanting out or at least get more from Markstrom then he did.
"Keeping an open mind" is about as far as he could reasonably go with a headline without misrepresenting anything.
Markstrom in his own words says he doesn't really want to go anywhere, Flames haven't asked him about waiving. That's about as blunt and anticlimactic as you can get, if you are trying to get some juicy rumors.
Him saying "if they ask me then we have that conversation" is the exact same response anyone with a NTC or NMC would say it the same situation. If the Avs asked Cale Makar if he would waive, he would have a similar conversation with the Avs as well.

The Devils are stacked. Goaltending is by far their glaring weakness. It would not surprise me at all to see them bounce back to a top team next year if they found the right goalie and are healthy.
Vegas missed the playoffs because of injuries and then won the Cup the next year. The Devils have similar potential if they can find a goalie and if they're healthy.
I do think Markstrom is a bit of a risk for them but at the same time what goalie isn't that would be available? It's an extremely tough position to maintain consistency at. Which is likely the reason why goalies often don't return big packages.
If the Flames can get anything decent Markstrom they should be pulling the trigger while the opportunity is still there.

When you look at playoff odds, Calgary is pretty much sunk with only 11.6% chance of making the post-season. New Jersey isn't in a great position either but have an 18.5% chance of making it. New Jersey also has the 10th easiest schedules left which gives them more runway compared to the Flames 19th easiest. New Jersey has potential to turn this around with the right additions which Calgary likely does not.

This is a summer trade if at all in my opinion. Tough to see a team putting enough on the table to make it worth the Flames while as Marky can keep them in games and in the race even as they sell off their pending free agents
