Why would Hanifin leave now? This team looks like a lot of fun to play for. If they make the playoffs it will be zero pressure and they could be serious party poopers for one of the top seeds.

I doubt he gets more money elsewhere.

Making your decision on the present day for 8.5 years. Yeah, what could possibly go wrong?

Hanifin signing would be a nice vote of confidence for the team from an American expiring free agent.

You're not serious? Oh, you are? Well then.

Chychrun if certain CPers are to believed had not yet reached his prime. Oh, and he asked for a trade. Happens to small market teams. Just ask Zadorov. So there's that.

Shame Coyotes didn't lock up Kuemper long term. They could have had a 33 year old posting a .894SV%.

Dvorak is barely an NHLer. Is 7 points this season the kind of prime we we think should be retained?

Speaking of barely NHLers, Boedker isn't even one.

And Domi is circling the bowl.

Not helping your case, like, at all.

Yeah, that's how I want the Flames to spend $64M, for a vote of confidence.

Well, you get the added bonus of a top-2 D-man who can play 25 minutes a night against the toughest competition. And whose skating will help ensure he's effective for the majority of a long contract.

That is what he is now. You (and I) have no idea what he will be in four years time. Plenty of smooth skating defencemen hav fallen off a cliff in their 30's.

True. He'll probably be even better in four years time... even at the advanced age of 31.

His time here hasn't been that bad. Are you suggesting he was miserable the whole time? He's been here long enough to have some roots. This team is going to be fun to play on for the next few years as they build up to being a contender again. That, plus $60M seems pretty good.

Wait
So
Ok
Let’s not sign anyone because they might get injured in a way that cannot be fixed properly……..yet

Hanifin is a very good top 4 Defenseman.

This team always has good top-4 D.

They need an extra 1st round pick, an extra prospect and a roster player that can be flipped for something else a lot more than they need a solid top-4 D.

...To potentially draft a good top-4 D with?
