The fair way to look at it would be to track which teams make acquisitions, and which teams don't. And see how many Cup winners come from each group.

Devils are 5 points out with 2 games in hand. And the team they are chasing is Detroit. Plus they have been without Hughes for weeks and will get him back at some point.
Calgary is 3 points out with one game extra and chasing St. Louis. And are shedding big players.
But moreover, I think Devils like their team over the next 3 years more than Calgary likes theirs, so if they are after Hanifin, it's with a contract either in place or agreed to with him.

Please don't deal Markstrom. Vladar is the one to be moved. Let Wolf mentor under Markstrom for a couple years so you don't throw the weight of the franchise on him too soon.

I'd be happy to keep Markstrom as a mentor for Wolf, but if he's headed for LA, they do have a slightly disgruntled Kaliyev, and a Turcotte buried on the third and fourth line.
