I guess I missed the part where the bench cleared.

Pretty rich coming from a guy who calls every Oiler's goal like it was an OT winner. Not to mention how he never gives the opposition credit when they score. Goof is right.

Maybe there was a little bit more to the celebration because the Oilers and the media sycophants are all Richards.

Man that McDavid Backcheck was bad, even among his normal efforts in his own zone.

Sort of related but maybe better off in the PGT from last night's Flames game

1. The pre-game show on SN before the Flames game was all Oilers in the last 10 minutes or so including highlights of McDavid at the ASG skills competition. I get that SN uses one pre show for everyone but the Leafs it seems, but what's the point of a regional channel if the game that's on it (Flames) isn't the singular or at least primary focus?

2. I can understand Kelly Hrudey not wanting to be biased, but he needs to understand that this is a Flames broadcast and to say something along the lines of "I can't wait until after this game so I can watch the Oilers" isn't something Flames fans really want to hear or give a #### about. For a guy that preaches common sense, he often lacks it.

I know we complain, but imagine the Canucks fans? With how well they have played yet all of the focus still on the Oilers. If it wasn't clear already, it's pretty clear now that 99 percent of the NHL media grew up idolizing Gretzky.

While I don't want Bruin-esque cheerleading from announcers, I do enjoy when a hockey person is actually a big fan of the game. I remember when Bob Mackenzie once said "The fan in me died years ago," and I found that kinda sad.

I was excited for the Oilers game too. I like to think Hrudey was pumped for the same reason I was... to watch them fail.

I don't want to go to the extreme of how the Bruins broadcasts are handled or the Pens from a few years back, but Hrudey goes out of his way to praise the opposition routinely and on a night where the Flames are playing extremely well, with a handful of new or returning players in the lineup, he drops that line about being excited to see the Oilers. It leaves a sour taste and it happens pretty frequently.

Re: the Oilers failing, I don't believe for a second he meant it that way. Its not in his nature. Admirable, but not in that moment.

People oversell the Bruins as a homer broadcast. To be clear, they are, but Edwards over the past decade has always played up his call for exciting plays from both teams - he doesn't no-sell the opposition. I haven't been watching NESN broadcasts lately to see if that's changed because his precipitous decline in capacity is sad (the little I have heard makes it sound a lot like what Bob Cole went through towards the end) but in his "peak" years he was a thousand times more watchable for non-Bruins fans than Michels is, especially if you're a fan of a team that isn't actually playing the Bruins. Michels is unlistenable unless you are a fan of the Oilers.

It was the next show on Sportsnet. It's sort of part of his job to promote it I suppose. It bugged me for a second, then I forgot about it.

OILERS FANS PRE GAME "this is the most important game in the history of sport, it will cement our greatness as the best team ever."

OILERS FANS POST GAME "boy Vegas sure celebrated that win for a regular season game. Not very classy."

It would have just been epic for them to win 18 in a row and still not make the playoffs.

Also if they do make it out of the 1st round I would want them to lose in OT in Game 7 of the finals.

Oiler fans still think that Tkachuk and Gaudreau left Calgary because they were "afraid to face the Oilers". They aren't a bright bunch.

Doesn't help when Marek goes on his own show, ignores the facts about why those players left and asks "Did the Oilers break the Calgary Flames" then ambushes Friedman into trying to support his theory.

I don't know, beating a team that was on a massive win streak, that is lead by two elite players, in their home town.

Yeah I would celebrate it pretty hard after the win, and cram some pie in their pie holes.

What did this person want, a dour celebration followed by a heavy session of lets praise the Oilers and tell their ego's how they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Hell no, its like playing in a multiplayer video game, and you blow the head off of one of the best players in the game, after he's been on a killer win streak. Of course you tea bag him long and hard.

That post-game show was beyond ridiculous. It just went on and on for what seemed like 30 minutes, and of course it was all Oilers. Not one single peep about Vegas who outplayed them and shut them down defensively while missing 2 of their top players.
