Liljegren is awful. He is a soon to be 25 year old Oesterle. I suspect at 50% retained Tanev is worth at least the 1st, when you throw in Samsonov as a cap dump who is not worth anything to the Flames as he is a UFA they will not sign and if you assume it is a 2nd rounder to get out of that contract that is a pretty awful deal. You can take Markstrom out of that deal and add the Vancouver 4th or 3rd and you would have a deal
Knies
Samsonov

Tanev (50% retained)
Vancouver 4th/3rd
Liljegren could be included but he has almost no value, maybe a 3rd.

I really disagree with this. He's an analytics darling, and all models point to him being very good at actually defending. He was vanilla in the games I watched, but he wasn't making any glaring mistakes either.
I think a team could view Liljergren like Washington viewed Sandin last year. He was traded for a 2023 1st and a good roster player(Gustafsson).
I actually see Liljergren becoming a good defenseman similar to Hanifin, jack of all trades, master of none. I'm not saying he's Hanifin, but I could expect the level of play we saw from Hanifin when we got him from CAR.

Well there's one giant flaw with this.
Noah is 3 years older @ 27 but has been in the league for 9 years.
Liljegren is 24 and has has bounced between ECHL/AHL and NHL for the last 7 years with very inconsistent play.
I think you're hoping for an absolute miracle that Liljegren turns into a Hanifin at this point. Just about every metric, eye test, stat and comparable at this point has him more likely to turn into a mediocre top 6 D in the NHL.
There's nothing I'd give up for a run at him at this point, I think he's peaked and is already struggling with injury issues @ 24.

Markstrom + Tanev 50 percent has to have some value to the right team. Those scoffing at a Samsonov + Liljegren + 24 1st + Knies package as a return are crazy, that’s nothing like the Phaneuf trade, we didn’t get a pick of any kind in that trade. Liljegren isn’t all that bad either, righty too and 10 years younger. He has a couple back to back 60+ GP seasons where he put up more than respectable counting stats and has seen his ice time climb from 16 mins ATOI to 19+ so far this year. He’s not a nobody and as a defence man it’s ok that he’s ‘quietly’ put up some solid seasons in his early 20s.

I had an inkling that it would be the first thing people mention. You can't just point to age. I specifically pointed to Hanifin we got from CAR as the player we'd be getting back. That Hanifin had 3 full seasons(and still had a lot of rough spots in his game). This is Liljegren's 3rd full NHL season, he just made the show later than Hanifin, so he is on a similar trajectory.
Hanifin in his first 3 years in CAR:
239GP 18G, 83P, -53
Liljegren in his time in TOR(he had 2 cups of coffee, and then made the roster full time):
171GP 13G, 51P, +37

At first glance the candle delineates that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you watch closely she throws one finger in the air which leads me to believe the answers we seek will come within 1hr, 1 week or even 1 month. There is a few subtle hints with ABC in the right corner which also could indicate the starting letters of the players that could be involved “A,” for Andrew Mangiapane “B,” for Blake Coleman and “C,” for Chris Tanev. And lastly I don’t think it’s a coincidence she has red hair; I could see the potential trade partners having red on their jersey or blue like the pillows or green/purple like in the background.
Best I can come up with right now. But I think that should really narrow it down for everyone.

I don't mind Liljegren as part of the package, but not as the centerpiece.
Knies is great, but the issue there is that LW is our strongest position, both on the roster and with respect to prospects. Center is weak on the roster and non-existent with prospects.
More D depth is good, we need that if we're moving Hanifin. But for the love of God, the main target HAS to be a C.

I suspect whatever the next move it is will take most by surprise. Rasta said NJ was hot and heavy for Tanev right? Wonder what kind of package can work there

I think everyone should exercise caution when it comes to acquiring any assets from Toronto. It is a certainty that they are overhyped and more than likely won't live up to expectations.

It comes across to me as "that's a good one" or "that's funny". As in, these aren't actually trades being discussed or happening.
