Think the simple answer here is to satisfy TV time slots. ESPN - and even Sportsnet - wouldn't like this to go beyond 3 hours.

I commenting in this thread, but I've actually not watched a lick of this, and won't be watching the game tomorrow. After hearing about the NHL not letting the last four players be picked by teams, I'm protesting this event.
Don't want to do it right, then don't get viewership.
